Overview

The 2002 Ford Focus delivers more fun in for the new model year. New features include a performance derivative, a new body style, a new sporty wagon package and several improvements and features that add to 2002 Ford Focus’ versatile, fun-to-drive, easy-to-own appeal.

The new additions include the Focus SVT, a performance version of the sporty ZX3; the ZX5, a five-door model; and the ZTW, a new wagon package.

Since its introduction in Europe in 1999, and the United States as a 2000 model, Focus has won praise for its performance, handling and package ingenuity. Focus is available for 2002 in four distinct body styles: ZX3 two-door hatchback, four-door sedan, four-door wagon, and the new ZX5 four-door hatchback.

All-New ZX5

The big news for 2002 is the addition of the ZX5 to the lineup. The ZX5 offers the contemporary, edgy design of the ZX3 model with the added convenience of four doors for owners who prefer easy rear-seat access for passengers.

In addition to ZX5’s ease of entry, rear seat passengers will enjoy a spacious cabin for up to three adult passengers with shoulder and lap safety belts in all three positions. When using ZX5 to haul cargo instead of people, the ZX5’s split 60/40 rear seat folds down to a flat load-floor. The ZX5 is expected to boost Focus’ appeal to entry-level and mature buyers.

Focus SVT

The Focus SVT is engineered by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team as an "out-of-the-box pocket rocket," which will compete with higher-priced import "tuner-cars." The SVT is a three-door vehicle with upgraded suspension, brakes and powertrain. The 2.0-liter Zetec engine has been modified to increase its output to 170 horsepower.

The SVT features a unique front air dam, ground effects bodywork and 17-inch wheels and tires. More detailed information on the SVT is available in the next section.

ZTW Package

For the owner who needs the practicality of a wagon, but wants a more contemporary design, Focus now offers a ZTW wagon package. The ZTW comes standard with the 2.0-liter Zetec engine and offers a standard four-speed automatic transmission. Customers can choose an optional manual transmission with a 3.82:1 final drive ratio. A four-wheel anti-lock braking system and AdvanceTrac™, are also available.

The exterior features standard 16-inch six-spoke aluminum wheels, fog lamps and dual power mirrors. A power moonroof is available.

Inside, the ZTW is unique from other wagons with its standard brushed aluminum appearance center stack bezel and six-disc, in-dash CD changer. The package also includes low-back leather bucket seats with driver side adjustable lumbar support; tilt and telescoping, leather-wrapped steering wheel; and tachometer.
