The rugged new 2002 GMC Sonoma pickup
Truck rustles up no less than six different models his
year, each providing a wide range of choices that allow
you to select the vehicle that is most appropriate for
your individual, family, and work requirements.
Choose from the GMC Sonoma SL Regular
Cab, Sonoma SLS Regular Cab, Sonoma SL Extended Cab,
Sonoma SL 4WD Extended Cab, Sonoma SLS Extended Cab,
and finally the Sonoma SLS 4WD Extended Cab.
At the entry level, the GMC Sonoma
SL Regular Cab features a four-cylinder engine with
sequential port fuel injection that is powered by ethanol,
producing 120 horsepower and 140 lbs-ft of torque. Each
vehicle has front wheel drive, five-speed manual transmission,
and all-season SBR tires. Automatic transmission is
optional.
Among the safety standards are ABS
brakes, a driver depowered air bag, passenger depowered
air bag with cut-off capacity, and front head restraints.
The Sonoma SL Regular Cab seats
three passengers and has two doors. Some of the comforts
and conveniences include air conditioning and a theft
deterrent system. Limited slip differential and an AM/FM
stereo with CD player are optional, and cruise control
and tilt steering wheel come in a package.

Moving up a notch, the GMC Sonoma
SLS Regular Cab is equipped with four-speed automatic
transmission and adds front fog lights to the base package.
The list of standards continues with cruise control,

power door locks, and dual power outside mirrors all
come as a package deal.

The GMC Sonoma SL Extended Cab has
seating for four passengers, and an increased towing
capacity from 4200 lbs to 4600 lbs. The overall length
jumps from around 190 inches to 205.3 inches. All other
features mirror those of the entry-level model.

Number four on the list is the GMC
Sonoma SL 4WD Extended Cab, with a towing capacity of
5150 lbs and a six-cylinder engine with center of vee
camshaft, 190 horsepower and 250 lbs-ft of torque. Along
with improved engine specs, this model features four-wheel
on-demand drive. The rear seat folds down to accommodate
extra luggage and gear, and the AM/FM stereo with CD
player is optional.

The rear wheel drive GMC Sonoma
SLS Extended Cab follows with the original four-cylinder
engine with 120 horsepower and four-speed automatic

Rounding out the GMC models, the
Sonoma SLS 4WD Extended Cab motors back up to 190 horsepower
with a V6 engine. It is fitted with on-off road radial

from the previous models apply to this vehicle as well.
