The new 2002 Mercury Mountaineer Sport Utility just might surprise you pleasantly with its range of performance, safety, and luxury features! Two models are offered, the Mountaineer Sport Utility and Mountaineer AWD Sport Utility, both with four doors and plenty of room for five passengers.

Under the hood of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, a strong six-cylinder engine and SOHC hum along to the tune of 215 horsepower. Standard transmission is a responsive five-speed automatic, reacting well to changes in terrain and the demands of its driver. The 2002 Mercury Mountaineer Sport Utility has two-wheel rear drive, while the Mountaineer AWD Sport Utility has the versatility and power of four-wheel full-time drive.

Safety standards include ABS brakes for better control during sudden braking situations, and both models also have front fog lights to illuminate the way in murky weather. Other standards include driver depowered air bag, passenger depowered air bag, front and rear head restraints, and optional side impact air bags. A rear wiper keeps the back window free for optimum visibility. For the protection of children, child safety locks have been installed on every vehicle.

The Mercury Mountaineer Sport Utility is not just about superior performance and safety, but also about traveling in style and comfort. Luxuries include such standards as air conditioning, cruise/speed control, power door locks, power windows, and dual power mirrors. The rear seat folds down conveniently, allowing more space for your luggage and sports equipment. The keyless entry system comes in handy for times when your hands are full and you can't fumble around for the keys, and the theft deterrent system lends peace of mind while away from the vehicle.
