2002 Mitsubishi Montero Overview

Bold and strong, the new 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport Utility has been released in two different models - Montero XLS Sport Utility and Montero Limited Sport Utility. With style and plenty of luxury for seven passengers, both of these vehicles pack heavier performance specifications than some of the more gutless competitors.

The Mitsubishi Montero XLS Sport Utility is loaded with comforts and conveniences like air conditioning, a handy keyless entry system, power windows, power door locks, and dual power outside mirrors.

The standards continue with cruise control, a convenient folding rear seat, and an AM/FM stereo with CD player for enjoyable drives. An array of pockets, storage compartments, and cupholders are peppered throughout the vehicle.

In the performance department, the Montero XLS Sport Utility is built tough with a six-cylinder, SOHC, multi-port fuel injected engine that rings in 200 horsepower and 235 lbs-ft of torque. Each vehicle is equipped with four-speed automatic transmission.

The drive type is four-wheel on-demand, allowing you to tread along terrain and through foul weather you would not be able to negotiate otherwise. Adding to the package are the standard mud and snow SBR tires for extra grip and control.

Mitsubishi does not skimp on safety to make room for all the luxury and performance features. Standard safety measures on the Montero XLS Sport Utility include front and rear head restraints, child safety locks, and ABS brakes.

The list goes on with side impact air bags, passenger depowered air bag, and driver depowered air bag. Front fog lights are available as a dealer-installed option.

Base invoice price: $29,390
Base list price: $31,687

The Mitsubishi Montero Limited Sport Utility takes the previous package and adds to it five-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel full-time drive, and front fog lights. Limited slip differential is another addition, and a moonroof/sunroof has been included. The interior is finished off in sporty elegance with fine leather seating.

Base invoice price: $33,203
Base list price: $35,797
