2002 Pontiac Montana
Already established as
a top choice for minivan buyers who want flexible utility,
comfort, and safety without sacrificing sporty styling
or driving fun, the 2002 Pontiac Montana takes another
giant leap forward with the addition of GMs vaunted
Versatrak all-wheel-drive system.
To complement that Pontiac
AWD control with comfort and convenience, the 2002 Pontiac
Montana will also offer the Gen III entertainment system
in Montana, featuring a DVD system with a wireless remote.
As before, the 2002 Pontiac Montana offers a choice
of two different sizes: a 112-inch wheelbase and an
extended 120-inch wheelbase, both with dual sliding
doors. All Pontiac Montanas offer optional power-operated
passenger-side sliding doors.
All-wheel-drive traction
on demand
The addition of GMs
Versatrak system to the Pontiac Montana minivan sets
it apart from the competitiona minivan with all-wheel
drive that still allows for a flat load floor in the
rear, without removing the third-row seat. Versatrak
is lightweight, quiet, efficient, and especially effective
in low-traction situations. Its one of the most
advanced approaches to all-wheel drive on the market
today.
With no pulling of levers,
punching of buttons, or other driver action, Versatrak
directs torque to those wheels with the best traction
on demand when you need it. Twin gerotor pumps inside
a compact rear drive module automatically sense the
difference between the rotational speeds of front and
rear tires in low-traction conditions. Before any significant
slippage occurs, the pumps engage multi-plate clutches
that provide drive to one or both rear wheels. After
slippage ceases, the clutches disengage and the vehicle
reverts to front-wheel-drive.
Pontiac's performance
on split-traction surfaces (one wheel track on dry pavement,
the other on ice or snow) is notably superior than all-wheel-drive
systems offered by the competition. The Versatrak system
is compact, and adds no noise or vibration. Electronic
and mechanical safeguards protect Versatrak from inadvertent
damage from abusive overload situations.
Thunder Sport appearance
package
The
Pontiac Thunder Sport appearance package is available
on all extended wheelbase models. It consists of 16-inch
chrome wheels, fully independent front and rear suspensions,
unique two-tone leather interior, rear spoiler and special
"Thunder" badging.
Gen III Entertainment
System
Also new is the Gen III
entertainment system, featuring a DVD player with wireless
remote. It also has a seven-inch video screen with on-screen
programming, auxiliary stereo RCA jacks for video game
systems and camcorders, and wireless headphones with
separate volume controls.
