2002 Volkswagen Beetle
When Volkswagen released
its retro throwback to the old Beetle a few years ago,
the enormous popularity the new version received was
incredible. The modern 2002 Volkswagen Beetle has become
a trendy statement of quirkiness and sentimentality,
but is backed with a highly innovative design and steadfast
quality.
Altogether, five models
are offered for the year 2002, each adding and changing
features so that you may best choose which one is right
for you. The model line up consists of the 2002 Volkswagen
Beetle GL Hatchback, Volkswagen Beetle GLS Hatchback,
BW Beetle GLS TDi Hatchback, Volkswagen Beetle GLS Hatchback,
and the Volkswagen GLX 1.8T Hatchback. Each of these
models has two doors and seating for four passengers.
The Volkswagen Beetle
GL Hatchback begins with ABS brakes, driver side air
bag, passenger side air bag, side impact air bags, and
both front and rear head restraints. Luxury standards
include air conditioning, keyless entry system, power
door locks, dual power mirrors, and theft deterrent
system. The rear seat folds down to create extra storage
space.
As for performance, the
GL Hatchback features a four-cylinder engine with SOHC,
five-speed manual transmission, front wheel drive, and
115 horsepower. Automatic transmission is available
as an option. The fuel economy rating is 24/31 (city/hwy).
Base invoice price: $15,151
Base list price: $15,900
Following in the base
models footsteps, the Beetle GLS Hatchback adds
front fog lights for better visibility, cruise control,
and power windows. A moonroof and leather upholstery
are available as options.
Base invoice price: $15,706
Base list price: $16,850
The third model, Beetle
GLS TDi Hatchback, sees an increase in fuel economy
to 42/49 (city/hwy), and uses turbo diesel fuel. This
model has 90 horsepower, and is therefore recommended
for mostly city use. Features listed are air conditioning,
cruise control, keyless entry system, and power door
locks, windows, and mirrors. A theft deterrent system
is included, but leather upholstery is not an option
at this level.
Base invoice price: $16,675
Base list price: $17,900
Moving along to the GLS
1.8T Hatchback, we see a four-cylinder engine with DOHC
that uses turbo gas and hits 150 horsepower. Traction
control has been added to the package, as has limited
slip differential. Leather is again an option.
Base invoice price: $17,876
Base list price: $19,200
The Beetle GLX 1.8T Hatchback
finishes up the imaginative line up with all of the
performance, luxury, and safety features of the previous
higher end models, and adds to the package a sunroof
and fine leather seating for a touch of sporty class.
Base invoice price: $20,001
Base list price: $21,500
