2003 Acura RL
Competing with the likes of Mercedes, Audi and BMW
is no small task, but for the Acura RL it's just another
day at the office. Perhaps the least conspicuous of
all performance luxury cars, the Acura RL quietly achieves
a very high level of refinement, safety, style and power.
For 2003, the RL is equipped with its largest engine
ever, while its interior is filled with an abundance
of convenient features to make any ride relaxing.
The Acura RL is a front-wheel drive, four-door luxury
car that seats five without hesitation. It offers such
a variety of features, both under its hood and under
its roof, that it made Consumer Guide's 2003 "Recommended"
list - quite a feat in itself. The Acura RL is offered
in one model, with or without an available navigation
system included.
Under the Hood
The Acura RL is modest and quiet, especially when it
comes to performance. Its engine, a 3.5-liter V6, hums
with 225 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 213 lb-ft torque
at 2800 rpm. At the same time, the RL delivers impressive
fuel efficiency and low tailpipe emissions. The RL is
classified by the EPA as a Low Emission Vehicle, getting
18/24 mpg (city/hwy). 4-speed automatic is the transmission
of choice.
The 2003 RL has a firm suspension system for improved
responsiveness and stability. Wide wheels and tires
enhance cornering grip, while a speed-sensitive, power-steering
system improves handling feel. For safety and performance,
the RL is equipped with Acura's Vehicle Stability Assist
(VSA) system, which helps provide both traction control
and stability assistance. Other safety features include
dual front airbags, front side airbags, antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes and an antiskid system - all standard.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
On the outside, the 2003 Acura RL gets a new taillight
lens with a clear turn signal portion and redesigned
alloy wheels. The interior is loaded with standard features,
including air conditioning with front and rear automatic
climate controls, a power tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control,
the convenient OnStar System, leather upholstery, heated
front bucket seats, an 8-way power driver seat with
lumbar adjustment, a 4-way power passenger seat, a memory
system (driver seat, mirrors, steering wheel), wood
interior trim, heated power mirrors, a power sunroof
and a Bose AM/FM/cassette, 6-disc CD changer audio system.
The only piece of optional equipment available is a
touch-screen navigational system, which uses a DVD system
and is linked to satellite. It offers route guidance
to almost any destination in the continental United
States and information on more than 3.7 million points
of interest. Without another word, the 2003 Acura RL
has already sold itself.
