2003 BMW 7-Series reviews and buying guide.

2003 BMW 7-Series resources:

2003 BMW 7-Series

At the top of the BMW family, the 7-Series sedans offer the utmost collection of performance and luxury. The 2003 BMW 745i and its limousine like counterpart, the 5.5-inch longer model 2003 BMW 745Li edition, are the blueprint, returning from last year, for the new flagship 2003 BMW 760Li. The first two are already the big boys on the block with plenty of V8 power and tremendous luxury details but the 760Li has them both beat. Powered by a V12, 6.0-liter engine with more power than any other BMW sedan, this model rules the roost.

The 7-Series is a true luxury car series aimed at rich people. They are designed for those who have other people drive for them but who nevertheless expect the best and demand superior power and handling to be there when needed. The classic BMW lines make a statement but at the same time, they advertise an appetite for performance oriented excitement rather than stately and perhaps boring luxury for its own sake. Some cars speak to their owner's success. The BMW 7-Series speaks to this same success but it adds a few messages about an adventurous fast-lane personality as well.

Under the Hood

The BMW 745i and 745Li sedans come with a powerful V8 engine. It is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission and it gets 18/26 mpg. This 4.4-liter dual overhead cam powerhouse gets 325hp at 6100rpm and 7-Series lb-ft of torque at 3600rpm. This engine transmission blend manages to get from 0-60 in just under 6 seconds. The 760Li has an even more powerful V12 engine. Capable of producing over 400 hp and nearly 450lb-ft of torque, the 760Li will be one of the most powerful cars on the road.

BMW is particularly concerned about performance and with its top-level sedans that concern is expressed by a smooth and comfortable cruiser with racing car capability. Sophisticated BMW power management and control technology includes such details as all-season and dynamic traction control, antiskid system, dynamic stability control, massive 4-wheel antilock ventilated disc brakes with dynamic brake control. Extensive passive safety details are in place as well; dual front, front and rear upper and lower airbags are all standard.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The maximum level of BMW luxury means that the 7-Series has just about everything they could throw into it, including 16-way power front seats on the 745Li, a navigation system, a cellular phone, BMW Assist, front and rear dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, wood trim and such items as rain-sensing wipers with deicer and heated washer streams.

These two cars have just about the top level of luxury but even so, there are assorted options packages that allow a level of choice beyond that which is already in place. For example, the luxury seat package replaces the front seats with 16-way front ventilated and massaging seats.
