2003 BMW M3 reviews and buying guide.

2003 BMW M3 resources:

2003 BMW M3

The 2003 BMW M3 is a model that echoes the pre-cursor 325s and 331s but it seems as though the designers there decided to just take a 300 series model and crank it up like mad. More power (much more), more performance and control technology (much more), and more luxury but all with the same chassis and body shell.

Featuring the advanced Sequential Manual Transmission (SMT) technology, the M series allows the driver to shift with 'paddles' on the steering wheel and the race-feel is very much there for those who want it. With this manual shift capability no clutch is required meaning the M line models behave like racers.

The M3 model list is comprised of the 2003 BMW M3 coupe and the 2003 BMW M3 convertible.

Under the Hood

BMW has pulled out a lot of stops with the M series, looking to make a sedan that would appeal to the racers out there but still keep it to a 6-cylinder platform. The dohc V6 in this instance has 333 hp at 7900 rpm and 262 lb-ft of torque at 4900. It can be equipped with either a 6-speed manual or the SMT automatic transmission with manual shift capability. With the manual transmission the M series manages 16/24 mpg (city/hwy).

The M-series has all of the many capabilities of the BMW 300 level cars but it adds some specific M Class items like the M sport suspension, chrome alloy wheels and 225/45ZR18 tires. These two models enjoy a lot of sophisticated performance technology with traction control, antiskid, 4-wheel antilock disc brake with brake assist and, a rollover protection system.

Safety innovations also include airbag technology in place in full measure with dual front, front side, head protection front side and optional rear torso side airbags.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The BMW M series cars have generous amenities with all of the following (plus much more); air conditioning, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, cruise control, power steering, door, locks and windows, heated power mirrors and remote keyless entry. Additional values are a tilt and telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls for the AM/FM/CD player, tachometer and more. However, the 330 versions add to the value with 6-way power driver seats and memory settings among other items.

BMW has one of the most comprehensive sets of optional packages available in cars today. Premium, Sport and Cold Weather Packages are specially available and tailored to the requirements of the M class. Safety, powertrain and accessory options are also available.
