2003 Dodge Dakota
The Dodge Dakota is basically a full-size pickup trapped
in the compact pickup segment. It has the styling and
power of larger full-size models, with the sharp handling
capabilities of a smaller truck. With a multitude of
different cab sizes and configurations, the 2003 Dodge
Dakota also boasts versatility at the head of its list
of attributes.
The Dakota is offered in a three-passenger regular
cab, a six-passenger two-door extended Club Cab, and
a six-passenger four-door crew cab Quad Cab. Regular
and Club Cab models have a 6.5-ft cargo bed, while the
Quad Cab has a 5.3-ft box. In addition, there are base
models, Sport models, SLT models and top-line R/T models.
Under the Hood
The Dakota offers three engines to accommodate the
diversified needs of pickup owners. The standard engine
in the 2003 Dodge Dakota is a 3.9-liter V8 that delivers
175 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 225 lb-ft of torque at
3200 rpm. 2WD and 4WD configurations are available across
most models, with the notable exception being the R/T,
which only comes with two-wheel drive.
One of the engines customers can upgrade to is a 235-horsepower,
295 lb-ft torque 4.7-liter Magnum V8. The other is the
most powerful engine among all compact offerings, a
5.9-liter Magnum V8 providing 250 horsepower and 345
lb-ft of torque. For safety, all Dodge Dakotas have
dual front airbags, while a number of different brake
configurations are provided within the extensive lineup.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Extensive spaciousness is a key feature for 2003. Dakota
Quad Cab's interior is the largest among four-door compact
pickups, with the most front and rear shoulder and hip
room as well. Designed to seat up to three rear passengers
comfortably, it offers convenient 60/40 split rear seats
that can fold up together to carry large objects, or
individually to accommodate a combination of people
and cargo. The 2003 Dodge Dakota Club Cab is the only
Club Cab model in the compact segment to offer a full-size,
forward-facing rear bench seat.
Each model offers a varying amount of interior comfort.
At the top of the line, the R/T provides air conditioning,
a tilt leather wrapped steering wheel, cruise control
and much more. Spreading even more diversity to the
line is the options list, which addresses comfort, performance
and safety.
Bigger and badder than other compact pickups, the 2003
Dodge Dakota is the big kid on the block.
