2003 Ford F-150
The 2003 Ford F-150 XL and XLT offer a large variety
of options for this class of heavy-duty half-ton pick-ups.
Enough Cab and Bed options that the full-size pick-up
class is no longer limited to those who need them for
work-related purposes. Choose between Regular (2-door),
SuperCab (hinged back-doors) and SuperCrew Cab (4-door)
and then attach either a Flareside (flared fenders)
or Styleside (flat-side) on the 6.5-ft bed. The other
bed-sizes available with the flat-side Styleside are
the shorter 5.5-ft beds and the extended 8ft beds. All
these options on the outside are suitably accompanied
by a series of engine choices that provide the appropriate
power-levels for whatever you are carrying, hauling
or driving on.
The F-150 is a best buy in its class and will not disappoint
when comfort and style are desired. Road handling and
feel are also strong points for this reliable powerhouse.
Under the Hood
The base XL and the higher trim level XLT edition Regular
Cab comes in rear-wheel drive with a 4.2 Liter V6 engine
with 202 hp. The 4WD SuperCab comes with a 4.6 liter
V8 that packs a powerful 281hp at 4750rpm. The 4WD also
comes with a 2-speed transfer case and low-range gearing
but should be disengaged on dry pavement. These engines
are controlled by a choice of 5-speed manual or four-speed
automatic transmission and they get respectable mileage
for the class with 17/21 mpg from the manual or 16/20
mpg from the automatic.
Finally, safety considerations are addressed with standard
dual-front airbags and 4-wheel antilock disc brakes
for safety and security.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Even on the base XL all the standard equipment one
needs is generously included, with Air Conditioning
being at the top of the list. Adding to the luxurious
feel is an AM/FM Cassette player, cloth upholstery,
and intermittent wipers. Car theft prevention is also
standard as are chrome bumpers, a full-size spare (235/70R16)
and a 4-wire trailer harness. Upgrading to the XLT includes
a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, power
windows, door locks and mirrors, tachometer, CD player,
outside temperature gauge and more. On the exterior,
the XLT styling upgrade means polished alloy wheels,
tow-hooks, fog lights and rear-quarter fold-out windows
and, this trim-level is offered in the SuperCrew Cab
that has power adjustable pedals.
A huge variety of options packages, not to mention
myriad individual items are available for the F-150
Series and for Ford vehicles in general. Use these options
to detail your vehicle to meet your personal mechanical
and stylistic preferences.
