2003 Ford Focus
The 2003 Ford Focus is an internationally popular sub-compact
car that offers good value for money, fuel economy,
cargo-room, handling capability and a variety of body
types and engine choices. Whether you choose a 2 door
hatchback, or the 4-door hatchback, wagon or sedan,
the Focus will get you from a to b without breaking
the bank, with style and, in the case of the sporty
SVT, with 170 hp carrying you along.
These options have a variety of trim levels labels
that indicate additional degrees of luxury and power.
They are as follows: LX, LX Premium, ZX3, ZX3 Premium,
ZX3 Power Premium and SVT. The 4-doors rise through
SE Sedan, (wagons range from SE Wagon to ZTW wagon),
SE Comfort, SE Comfort/Zetec, ZTS, ZX5, ZX5 Comfort
and ZX5 Premium.
Under the Hood
Three different 2-liter 4-cyl engine types are available
and they fit into one or other of the abovementioned
models. The base engine is offers 110 hp at 5000 rpm
and 125 lb-ft of torque at 3750 rpm. This comes with
a choice of 5-speed manual (28/36 mpg) or 4-speed automatic
(26/32 mpg). The next engine choice puts out 130 hp
at 5300 rpm and is capable of 135 lb-ft of torque at
4500 rpm. It still gets the same great fuel economy
ratings. The third engine, that which is installed in
the SVT, pumps out 170 hp at 7000 rpm and 145 lb-ft
@ 5500.
Not surprisingly, this car is also equipped with a
rear spoiler and 4-wheel antilock disc brakes to enhance
control. All the Ford Focus models are equipped with
dual-front airbags.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The wide range of model types means there are many
different standard packages, though it is possible to
chart the course of the additional equipment. The base
LX comes with some noteworthy basics: theft-deterrent
system: rear defog and driver-side height adjustment.
LX Premium adds A/C and armrests. ZX3 adds the DOHC
130 hp engine and a variety style/luxury details to
the LX: leather-wrapped steering, AM/FM/CD and Tachometer
to name a few. Again Premium adds A/C, Cruise Control
and other luxury features. The ZX3 Power Premium adds
power windows, doors, mirrors and more and then, at
the top of this line, is the SVT. This adds the 170
hp engine, SVT suspension package, cloth/leather upholstery,
heated mirrors and power seat adjustment.
The Wagons have similar additions as you go up through
the trim levels. However, a big benefit with Ford vehicles
is a wide selection in terms of optional additional
equipment. It is possible to choose major packages such
as the Cold Weather Package or the Sport Group or to
just add single items like ABS brakes. The result is
a smart, versatile and economical vehicle choice.
