2003 GMC Sierra 2500 reviews and buying guide.

2003 GMC Sierra 2500

The Sierra 2500 is like the 1500 in that it offers performance, comfort and safety in a number of different configurations. The major difference is in its size, as the 2500 rounds in at a very healthy ¾-ton. If it's a large, full-size pickup truck with a nice sense of style thrown into the working mix you want, the 2500 is a good option to consider.

The Sierra 2500 comes in a regular cab with two doors and two or three-passenger seating, and an extended cab with dual rear-hinged back doors and up to six-passenger seating. Available in 2WD or 4WD configurations, the 2500 can easily take it off-road when necessary. There are also three cargo boxes with the 2500: a short 6.5-ft. flush-fender Fleetside box, a 6.5-ft flare-fender Sportside box and a long 8.1-ft. Fleetside box. Three models are available, depending on the configuration: SL, SLE and SLT. Needless to say, customers are given a full selection from which to choose.

Under the Hood

The 2500 is built primarily for heavy work. Its engine doesn't mess about, offering plenty of strength and staying power. A Vortec 6.0-liter V8 with 300 horsepower at 4400rpm and 360lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm, it certainly means business. 4-speed automatic transmission is standard, while the result of the 2500's high-performance engineering is a maximum trailer weight of 10,700 lbs.

For safety, manufacturers of the 2003 Sierra 2500 have enhanced the truck's brakes. The result is a vacuum boost power, four-wheel disc, four-wheel antilock brake system with Dynamic Rear Proportioning. Also standard are dual front airbags.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

One of the new standard features across all models is the instrument panel, which features new trim plates, International Standardization Organization (ISO) symbols replacing text, new switch controls and a more functional instrument panel (IP) cluster. Another is the 2500's new seats, which possess new sew styles and sculpted contours, providing a more tailored, European-style appearance. In addition, thicker front-seat headrests also improve comfort.

Some of the additional equipment that can be added to 2500 models includes the Quadrasteer 4-wheel steering system, eight-button steering wheel controls, the OnStar system, an in-dash six-disc CD changer and heavy-duty trailering equipment.

With enough styles, sizes and configurations, the 2500 is practically in its own class.
