2003 GMC Sonoma Extended Cab and Crew Cab

The GMC Sonoma is no stranger when it comes to offering customers a wide variety in terms of selection. In conjunction with the two-door regular cab, the extended cab and crew cab team together to blitz the competitive compact pickup market from all angles.

For 2003, the Sonoma crew cab continues to be available only in an uplevel SLS trim, but that trim level now offers two differently priced and contented versions. The extended cab is also available in the SLS style, but it is also offered in a base SL model. The extended cab has a left-side rear-hinged back door and one rear jump seat, resulting in 3 or 4-passenger seating (three with front bucket seats). The crew cab has four full doors, front buckets seats and a rear bench for a total of five-passenger seating. The extended cab has a 6-ft. bed in either Wideside or flared-fender Sportside form and the crew cab has a 4.6-ft. Wideside bed. All Sonoma models are well equipped for a variety of tasks, displaying the type of versatility necessary in a compact pickup.

Under the Hood

Both the extended and crew cab sizes are given a more powerful standard engine than the regular cab. A Vortec 4.3-liter V6, it is capable of 180 horsepower (190 horsepower with 4WD). Four-wheel drive is optional with the extended cab and standard on the crew cab. In terms of transmission, the extended cab has 5-speed manual, while the crew cab has 4-speed automatic (optional on the extended cab).

Dual front airbags head the list of security features. Variable-ratio, integral power, recirculating ball-type steering is there to help avoid ever having to deploy them. For a smooth ride, both the extended cab and crew cab have Increased Capacity Suspension.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The SL extended cab model comes with such features as air conditioning, AM/FM radio, digital clock, tachometer and a black vinyl floor covering. The SLS version of the extended cab adds deep-tinted glass, a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control and an AM/FM/CD player, while the crew cab SLS is given slightly more with heated power mirrors, windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, AM/FM/cassette/CD player and an overhead console.

There are a number of options to choose from with the 2003 GMC Sonoma, including a 6-disc CD changer and the full range of GM Accessories. These include bed rails, hard and soft tonneau covers, a trailer hitch and a bed extender. In addition, crew cab owners can add a ZR5 Sport Appearance package to give their trucks a fresh, sporty look.

Variety, alongside versatility and performance, head the triumvirate of reasons to purchase the 2003 GMC Sonoma.
