2003 Honda Civic reviews and buying guide.

2003 Honda Civic resources:

2003 Honda Civic

If you've ever owned a Honda Civic, chances are you have no reason to even consider anything else. The Civic is perhaps the ultimate subcompact vehicle on the road, blending every conceivable feature into one impressive package. Solid in every facet, the 2003 Civic continues the tradition, offering good performance, modest styling and a nice ride at a reasonable price. And don't forget, Hondas last for a long, long time.

The Civic is available in two body styles: two-door coupe and four-door sedan. Both seat five passengers comfortably, and come in DX, LX and top-running EX trim levels (sedans also offer a GX trim). Also included in the Civic lineup are a fuel-conscious HX model and the next generation Hybrid, plus a sporty Si hatchback model, which warrant their own, separate reviews.

Under the Hood

Consistent performance is a trademark of Honda Civics. The standard engine is a 1.7-liter 4-cylinder that offers 115 horsepower. EX models up the intensity with the same configuration, providing 127 horsepower. 5-speed manual transmission and 4-speed automatic are available with both engines.

The Honda Civic is exceptional when it comes to fuel economy. The 117-horsepower engine provides a rating of 32/38 mpg (city/hwy) for manuals, and 29/38 mpg (city/hwy) for automatics. Similarly, the 127-horsepower engine offers 32/37 mpg (city/hwy) for manuals and 30/28 for automatics. Safety is comprehensively addressed with the new 2003 Civic as well. In addition to excellent handling, all models have dual front airbags and an emergency inside trunk release. EX models come with standard antilock brakes.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

A comfortable ride has always been a feature that Civics have ensured, and 2003 is no different. Entry-level DX models provide power steering, tilt steering wheel, cloth upholstery, cupholders, split folding rear seat, AM/FM radio, digital clock, rear defogger and more. One step up, the LX adds air conditioning, an interior air filter, cruise control, height-adjustable driver seat, power mirrors, windows and door locks and AM/FM/CD player, while uplevel models offer even more.

For additional safety, owners of 2003 Honda Civics can opt for front side airbags, which provide added protection in side impact situations. It is best to equip your Civic with all of the top-notch features available, because with its outstanding durability you won't need another for a long time.
