2003 Hyundai Accent 3-Door
The Hyundai Accent is available in a four-door sedan
and a three-door hatchback. The latter has two conventional
doors, plus an easy-to-use rear hatchback opening that
basically functions as a third door. Thus, the name
three-door hatchback is used. Like all Hyundais, the
Accent is reliable, affordable, and confidently handles
everyday driving without any unnecessary hassles.
The three-door Accent falls in line with the modern
approach to auto making that Hyundai has chosen to undertake.
All major plastic parts of the Hyundai Accent, and other
models for that matter, are coded to facilitate recycling.
Of course, like other Hyundais, the Accent also boasts
excellent fuel economy, easily doubling that of many
SUVs lumbering about on the road today.
Under the Hood
The three-door Accent comes in two different trim levels,
L and GS, each with their own capable and efficient
engine. The L model has a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine
that delivers 92 horsepower. Uplevel GS models have
a bit more kick with a similarly sized engine (1.6-liter
4-cylinder) with 105 horsepower. 5-speed manual and
a smooth-shifting 4-speed automatic transmission are
both available. The former has a fuel rating of 28/36
mpg (city/hwy), while 4-speed automatics get 25/35 mpg
(city/hwy).
The three-door Hyundai Accent has a highly responsive
4-wheel independent suspension system that results in
a gentle ride. In addition, a slightly altered chassis
design now reduces turbulence for improved aerodynamics.
Safety is achieved with side impact beams, a collapsible
steering column and dual front airbags.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Accent seats five passengers comfortably. L models
come with such standard features as power steering,
remote fuel door, dual remote mirrors, 60/40 split-folding
rear seats, an AM/FM cassette player and more. The GS
model takes everything the L model has and provides
even more. It adds air conditioning, a digital clock,
tinted glass and a few others.
L model options include air conditioning, a driver's
seat armrest and a rear cup holder. GS models offer
customers the option to add power mirrors, windows and
door locks and an AM/FM/CD player.
Inexpensive and durable, the Hyundai Accent is a good
package at a price that is more than fair.
