2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS reviews and buying guide.

2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS resources:

2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS

The Elantra is the top-selling Hyundai model in the American market, enticing customers with its shockingly low price tag and well-rounded features. When you consider the confidence manufacturers have in the durability of the Elantra, this popularity becomes understandable. Hyundai's warranty is one of the industry's longest: 5-years/60,000-mi. basic, 10/100,000 powertrain.

The GLS is the entry-level trim for the 2003 Elantra sedan. It is joined by an uplevel GT model, which also offers a hatchback body style. All trim levels have four-doors and seat five passengers.

Under the Hood

The Elantra GLS features an efficient motor under its hood. It is the most powerful engine in the subcompact class, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder DOHC that dishes out 135 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 133 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm. 5-speed manual transmission is standard, providing a nice fuel economy of 25/33 mpg (city/hwy). 4-speed automatic is optional, with an equally impressive rating of 24/33 mpg (city/hwy).

The 2003 Elantra has a fully independent suspension system that dampens the impact of those annoying potholes. 15-inch wheels with sporty tires are standard. In terms of safety, the GLS has dual front airbags and front side airbags. Antilock brakes with traction control are optional.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The Elantra is smoothly shaped to cut through the wind as it glides down the road. Its side mirrors are aerodynamically designed to reduce noise at high speeds. On the inside, the GLS trim provides a comfortable cabin to make any ride relaxing.

Standard features include air conditioning, power steering, cloth upholstery, front bucket seats with driver-seat height adjustment, center console, a split folding rear seat, heated power mirrors, windows and door locks, an AM/FM/cassette, a digital clock, a tachometer, visor mirrors, a rear defogger, a remote fuel-door and decklid release and map lights.

An optional Convenience Package adds additional convenience with cruise control and remote keyless entry with an alarm. Other options include an AM/FM/CD player, a moonroof and carpeted floormats.

Well-appointed, reliable and affordable are three very relevant adjectives that describe the 2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS.
