2003 Hyundai Tiburon reviews and buying guide.

2003 Hyundai Tiburon

The 2003 Hyundai Tiburon has been a very successful sporty coupe for Hyundai and this year's model should do equally well, if not better with a redesign that includes new styling, larger dimensions, and a V6 engine on the GT model; the base model retains the 4-cylinder.

The Tiburon offers a comfortable ride, good handling capability, a variety of sporty add-ons and a fair collection of standard features for driving pleasure.

Under The Hood

The basic model Tiburon comes with a 4-cylinder, 2.0 liter dohc with a 5-speed manual transmission that pumps out 140 hp @ 6000 rpm. This power is strongest around the 4800 rpm mark where the torque is measured at 133 ft-lbs.

Hyundai has given a few transmission and engine size options. It is possible to get the 4-cyl as a 4-speed automatic as well. The GT V6 has an added option, with 6-speed manual transmission available instead of the 5-speed manual or the 4-speed automatic. The V6 is a 2.7 liter dohc measured at 181 hp @ 6000 rpm and it is most powerful around the 4000 rpm mark, with 171ft-lbs of torque.

Both models come standard equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes, front side airbags and optional ABS, while the GT V6 has sport suspension and 17-inch wheels instead of the 16-inch ones on the base model.

Standard Features and Optional Add-ons

The base model Tiburon includes the following great features at no extra cost: air conditioning, cruise control, power locks, mirrors and windows, an AM/FM/CD player and remote keyless entry, just to name a few.

The V6 has some added attractions, on top of the bigger engine. These include leather upholstery and steering wheel wrapping and an upgrade to the Infinity audio system that includes a cassette player.

The optional add-ons are mostly enhancements to the sporty styling. The various additions can be chosen in different combinations from nearly a dozen alternative packages. However, they mostly include the following details; power sunroof, aluminum pedals and a high spoiler.
