2003 Lexus RX 300
The 2003 Lexus RX 300 is the template for the SUV/passenger
car crossover vehicle. The RX was the first luxury brand
vehicle to combine SUV versatility with the interior
amenities of a luxury sedan. 2003 adds a standard one-touch
power moonroof to this design forerunner, adding a further
competitive advantage to an already industry-leading
quality level.
The RX 300 is a 4-door wagon available with either
2 or all-wheel drive. Advanced and sophisticated suspension
and chassis designs mean this versatile wagon drives
like a passenger car that can handle the rigorous off-road
driving conditions that people often face traveling
to cottages or even, when looking for that hard to reach
picnic site. In addition, the RX 300 will be a comfort
to see in the driveway when inclement weather threatens
adverse road conditions.
Under the Hood
The RX 300 has the stalwart 3.0-liter inline V6 engine
that the IS 300's and the GS 300's enjoy. 220 hp is
achieved at 5,800 rpm and 218 lb.-ft. of peak torque
is available at 3,800 rpm, with 80% of peak torque available
at a remarkably low 1600rpm. Surprisingly, this tow-vehicle
like capability is accompanied by the ability to do
0-60 mph in 8.8 seconds in four-wheel drive! The ubiquitous,
(on Lexus vehicles) Variable Valve Timing with intelligence
(VVT-i) system, delivers solid power throughout the
engine's range. Clearly, this is a truly versatile crossover
vehicle.
The RX is not all about performance. Safety is a design
priority on all Lexus vehicles and the extensive technological
innovation in this area is a significant part of the
value from this manufacturer. Cutting edge technology
includes three-point seatbelts for all five seating
positions, dual front airbags and front seat-mounted
side airbags. Pretensioners, force limiters and height
adjustable anchors all add to front seatbelt effectiveness.
Handling and performance technology goes through antilock
brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist and Vehicle Skid Control
(VSC) to enhance driver control.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The roomy and versatile RX 300 comes equipped with
the types of luxury features and details that have become
synonymous with Lexus, providing individually reclining
seating for five that will accommodate a variety of
shapes and sizes of passengers. An array of different
cargo configurations adds to versatility with up to
75 cubic feet of cargo space. A towing pre-wire is standard
for the four-wheel drive model and many other function-oriented
features add to RX 300 value.
However, the amazing options on the RX 300 include
such things as a DVD-based Lexus navigation system,
leather seating surfaces and trim, a six-disc CD changer,
wood-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, two-level
seat heaters and so on. This car will pamper you and
still tow your boat-trailer down the bumpy hill to the
launch.
