2003 Mitsubishi Montero reviews and buying guide.

2003 Mitsubishi Montero resources:

2003 Mitsubishi Montero

The full-size sport utility vehicle, the 2003 Mitsubishi Montero, is the largest and most powerful vehicle from this manufacturer. This is a an SUV designed to be as comfortable going to the opera in Paris as it is going to the opera in Dakar from Paris, taking the shortcut through the Sahara while you are at it.
This year it has more power, more performance features and more handling capability than ever before. The Montero is available in XLS and Limited models and this year it has a third version, the 20th Year Anniversary edition, with distinctive exterior and interior styling that includes ebony trim.

Under the Hood

The Mitsubishi Montero has a lot of power and a large 3.8-liter V6 to produce it. With 215 hp at 5500 rpm and 248 lb-ft of torque at 3250, the 24-valve overhead cam powerhouse pushes and pulls as much as you need. With trailer brakes and a Class III hitch, the Montero will tow 5000lb.

But, that isn't the whole performance story for the Montero. It also features Mitsubishi's Sportronic adaptive automatic transmission, a manual shifting capability that enables the driver to accelerate or decelerate smoothly, shifting with your fingers. In addition, a front stabilizer bar adds to handling capability just as the ActiveTrac Drive System allows the driver to switch from 2WD to AWD to part-time 4WD as needed, with two engine ranges to select from.

Safety features include 4-wheel antilock disc brakes as well as dual-front and front-side airbags. Antiskid and traction control systems are standard equipment on both models. It also has a 2-speed transfer case, skid plates, tow hooks, a full-size spare 265/70R16 tire, fog lights and roof rails.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The Montero has a very high level of comfort. Designed to be acceptable as either an off-road workhorse or a luxury comfort oriented vehicle, the Montero has plenty of interior amenities to accompany the high level of performance. Highlights on the up-level Limited edition include leather upholstery on heated 10-way power front bucket seats, a power sunroof, Infinity 315W audio system, power antenna, trip computer and much more.

Air conditioning, cruise control, tilt power steering, power windows, door locks and mirrors, remote keyless entry, rear privacy glass and much more comprise a portion of the list of amenities standard on both models. Options packages allow even more luxury detailing.
