2003 Nissan Altima
The 2002 "North American Car of the Year"
is back for another go-round. The 2003 Altima retains
an impressive powertrain selection, a distinctive exterior
design and its class-leading roominess, and throws in
a few touch-ups for good measure. One of the improvements
with the 2003 Nissan Altima is a redesigned interior,
which features a previously unseen level of refinement.
In addition, a new packaging system is designed to simplify
the options selection process for customers.
The new Altima has a confidence borne from its unquestionable
popularity. It has a dramatically styled body with sporty
forms and wheels pushed out to the corners for an aggressive
look. For 2003, the award-winning Altima is offered
in four well-equipped models: 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 SL and
3.5 SE.
Under the Hood
As their name suggests, 2.5-series models are given
a 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine. It produces
170 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. Likewise, the
3.5 SE features a 245-horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve
V6 with 246 lb-ft of torque. Previous Altima SE owners
should note that this is a 5 horsepower increase from
last year. Additionally, SE models have dual exhausts
to reinforce a ready look.
Customers have a choice between 5-speed manual and
4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.
Both engines feature a modular cylinder head design,
which includes lightweight pistons, continuously variable
valve timing and a variable induction system. Safety
is addressed with dual-stage supplemental airbags with
seat belt sensors and available front seat side-impact
supplemental airbags and roof-mounted side-impact curtain
airbags for front and rear occupants.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The class-leading roominess of the 2003 Nissan Altima
is a feature that everyone on the inside will appreciate.
The same spaciousness extends to the trunk, which has
an ample cargo-carrying layout. All models feature bright
titanium interior accent colors and a padded front center
armrest cover.
The 2.5 SL now includes heated front seats, heated
outside mirrors and simulated wood trim. A new 3.5 SE
Sport Package includes sunroof and spoiler, while the
new 3.5 SE Sport Package Plus adds a Bose audio system
and xenon headlights. There is also a leather package,
a cold package and much more. Everything about the 2003
Nissan Altima reinforces the idea that customers are
king.
