2003 Nissan Pathfinder
Improved safety is one of the key upgrades to the 2003
Nissan Pathfinder. Available for the first time are
front side airbags and curtain side airbags, designed
to maximize security in the event of a side-impact collision.
However, with the Pathfinder's exceptional handling,
generally these additional airbags will only serve as
reminders of Nissan's commitment to occupant safety.
Nissan's longest serving SUV seats five and is available
with 2WD and 4WD configurations. There are two trim
levels available for 2003: SE and LE. The new model
years sees many additional upgrades and added refinements
spread across both trim levels. LE models now come with
a standard leather interior, while SE models feature
restyled 6-inch, 6-spoke aluminum wheels.
Under the Hood
The 2003 Nissan Pathfinder is given one highly capable
engine to power it through the myriad of tasks it will
be called upon to undertake. It is a 3.5-liter V6, and
it provides 240 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 265 lb-ft
of torque at 3200 rpm. The Pathfinder engine's emphasis
on low to mid-speed torque is perfect for off-road use
and for transporting recreational equipment. 5-speed
manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions are both
available.
Four-wheel drive SE Pathfinders have a shift-on-the-fly
transfer case that can be engaged at speeds of up to
50 miles per hour. Four-wheel drive LE Pathfinders come
standard with an advanced push-button All-Mode 4WD system.
Handling is made simple with rack-and-pinion steering,
while safety is further achieved with dual front airbags
and power-assisted brakes and standard 4-wheel/4-sensor/3-channel
antilock brakes.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The Pathfinder's unique look is achieved with a high
hood with a "milled off" top/front edge, multi-parabola
headlights and fog lights. As always, 2003 Pathfinders
offer a wide array of standard features. SE models come
with such appointments as a theft deterrent system,
air conditioning, a tilt leather-wrapped steering wheel,
cruise control, front bucket seats, heated power mirrors,
power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry,
an AM/FM/cassette/CD player, a digital clock and a tachometer.
Along with a lush leather interior, the LE adds automatic
climate control, a Bose AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc
CD changer, steering-wheel radio controls and a power
sunroof.
Some of the available options that stand out are Satellite
Radio and a DVD entertainment system. Both of these
features will make even cross-country journeys pleasant.
