2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette reviews and buying guide.

2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette resources:

2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Oldsmobile has a knack for producing single models in car classes. In the midsize SUV category they offer the Bravada, while in the minivan category they present the versatile Silhouette. Whether this is done to load these entries with all the features that might otherwise be spread over a range of vehicles is not quite known, but by all accounts this is exactly what happens. As a result, the 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette presents itself as an extremely capable minivan that boasts an abundance of power, performance, style and comfort.

A refined minivan with family convenience in mind, the Silhouette is offered in three models: GL, GLS and Premiere. With eight-passenger seating, two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations, a powerful engine and a host of other features, there is little that isn't appealing with the Silhouette. New for 2003, the Silhouette comes with standard 16-inch wheels, traction control on the two-wheel drive model and two new exterior colors: Olympic White and Galaxy Silver.

Under the Hood

The engine that powers all three Silhouette models is a Vortec 3.4-liter V6 with 180 horsepower. The transmission is 4-speed automatic. Handling is made effortless with power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, while a load-leveling suspension system smoothes out the bumpiest of drives, adding to the enhanced comfort of the ride.

Safety is tops on the priority list, as the Silhouette provides families with standard antilock 4-wheel brakes. Dual-stage air bags for driver and front passenger offer maximum protection in high-speed crashes while minimizing injury risk to smaller stature occupants. Front side-impact airbags are also standard.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Finely orchestrated spaciousness is standard on all models. The base GL comes with such features as rear privacy glass, a roof rack, front air conditioning, cruise control and an AM/FM/CD player, while the GLS adds leather upholstery, 8-way power front seats with driver-seat memory, trip computer and front dual-zone automatic climate control to the list of standard goods. The Premiere is simply filled with all of this and more. Particularly impressive is its LCD color screen/DVD player with input jacks for video games or camcorder camera.

There are many options packages to choose from that aim to fully increase the performance and comfort of the Silhouette. One such option is a towing package, which beefs the Silhouette up to tackle the heaviest loads.

The 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette is GM's upscale minivan, adding luxury and refinement to a solid base of sound engineering.
