2003 Suzuki Vitara 4-door
The 2003 Suzuki Vitara 4-door is one of Suzuki's best
family vehicles. With optional 4-wheel drive, comfortable
seating for 5 adults, ample cargo space, this compact
SUV is a successful entry for Suzuki in a competitive
class.
What used to have an assortment of trim levels has
now been changed to either 4-wheel drive or 2-wheel
drive and they both have the same basic trim, one that
has all the basic needs covered and then some. The fuel
efficient 4-cyl engine is nevertheless quite powerful
and will get the family from a to b and back again without
breaking the bank and it will also do it well in snow.
This is one small family car that has the abilities
of the SUV class while maintaining the economy and maneuverability
of a compact vehicle that is often a priority in the
urban jungle. The Vitara is also small enough to get
down narrow dirt roads that would stop many of the larger
SUVs out there.
Under the Hood
The 2003 Suzuki Vitara 4-door comes with a single choice
of 4-cyl engine that can be teamed with either a 4-speed
automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. This 2-liter
dynamo produces 127 hp at 6000 rpm and 134lb-ft of torque
at 3000. The Vitara 4-door gets 22/25 mpg (city/hwy).
Independent McPherson struts on the front and rear
coil springs on the back mean the Vitara can absorb
the challenge of off-road conditions without sacrificing
comfort.
Dual-front airbags and daytime running lights are standard,
as is a full-size spare 215/65R16 tire. The 4WD edition
comes with a 2-speed transfer case. The folding convertible
top frees up a significant amount of room for transporting
cargo of different sizes and the Vitara models all offer
optional antilock brakes and alloy wheels.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 4-door Vitara, unlike the two-door convertible,
has rear occupant comfort enhanced by the second set
of rear doors, facilitating entry. Also, when the rear
seat is down, the Vitara 4-door has over 50 cubic feet
of cargo space.
The 4-door Vitara adds some items to the list of standard
equipment available on the 2-door convertible. For example,
cruise control, a cargo cover and roof rails are both
standard issue, along with the rear defogger, wiper
and washer that is needed because of the rear windshield.
Interior amenities shared with the 2-door include air
conditioning, tilt power steering, power windows, door
locks and mirrors, cloth upholstery on front bucket
seats and a rear split-folding bench seat, and an AM/FM/CD
player.
Suzuki, in general, is trying to make vehicles that
are accessible to all budgets without sacrificing quality
and a reputation for reliability and the Vitara 4-door
is one of these.
