2003 Suzuki XL-7 reviews and buying guide.

2003 Suzuki XL-7 resources:

2003 Suzuki XL-7

The full-size sport utility vehicle from Suzuki is the regal 2003 XL-7, a longer, more powerful and more luxurious version of the popular Grand Vitara. This 4-door seats five adult passengers with room for an optional third row seat that puts that number up to 7. Unlike the Grand Vitara, the XL-7 is available in either of two trim levels, Touring or up-level Limited, and it has some refined interior styling for 2003, specifically, the Instrument panel has been re-styled.

The Suzuki SUV family is one that considers fuel economy and spaciousness, balancing them effectively so that both specs challenge class competitors in this extremely popular segment. In the XL-7 they have managed this by virtue of the V6 engine, which supplies ample power without overdoing at the expense of the environment. Nevertheless, the XL 7 is capable of all that the SUV class is designed for, offering a comfortable and capable ride despite adverse road conditions, 3000lbs of towing capacity, plenty of seating and 75 cubic feet of cargo room.

Under the Hood

Offering more power than any other Suzuki, the XL-7 is equipped with a 2.7-liter dual overhead cam V6. This dynamo can be teamed with either a 4-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual. Both transmission types manage 17/20 mpg (city/hwy), a good number for the class. The 183 hp at 6000 rpm and 180 lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm that the engine produces is good for either the 4-wheel drive or 2-wheel drive modes.

The XL-7 shares the 4-wheel independent suspension of the Grand Vitara, with McPherson struts on the front and rear coil springs on the back. This enables the XL-7 to combat adverse road conditions while still maximizing occupant comfort.

Dual-front airbags and daytime running lights are standard, as is a full-size spare 235/60R16 tire. The Limited model comes with standard antilock brakes, an option on the Touring model. The 4WD edition comes with a 2-speed transfer case and heated power mirrors. The Limited also adds a rear spoiler and fog lights, enhancing safety and styling. Alloy wheels can be added to either model.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The XL-7 has a level of luxury in the Limited model that is not found in other Suzuki vehicles. Leather upholstery on front bucket seats and 2nd row bench seat, a power sunroof, an in-dash 6CD changer and a leather-wrapped steering wheel all add to value at this level.

In addition to these items it has dual-zone manual climate control, cruise control, tilt power steering, power windows, door locks and mirrors, remote keyless entry, rear privacy glass and automatic headlights.
