Used 2004 GMC Sierra 1500
Buying Guide for the GMC Sierra 1500:
The GMC Sierra skids into
2004 with a revamped series of full-size trucks. They promise
to feature roomier cabs, more driver-friendly features, power
increases and more standard equipment. In other words, the
manufacturers at GMC want to ensure that the Sierra remains
one of the premier full-size pickup trucks on the road.
The Sierra 1500 regular cab
opens things up. It is a two-door model with seating for up
to three, if you don’t mind going three across the front.
Strong, durable and tough, the Sierra 1500 regular cab is
just like the multitude of other models with the same nameplate.
For 2004, the Work Truck Package
is available on all Sierra models. It features a unique front-end
appearance that sets it distinctly apart from other trim levels.
The regular cab comes with Wideside cargo beds of 6.5 and
8.1 ft, or a flare-fender Sportside bed of 6.5 ft.
Under the Hood
There are a number of available
engines with the 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 regular cab model. The
standard package includes a 4.3-liter V6, mated to either
5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic. The engine
offers the following specs: 200 horsepower at 4600 rpm and
260 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm.
The first of the two optional
engines is a 4.8-liter V8 model with 285 horsepower at 5600
rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The second is a 5.3-liter
V8. It cranks out 295 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 330 lb-ft
of torque at 4000 rpm and only uses 4-speed automatic transmission.
The Sierra comes with rear-wheel
drive with optional traction control or with one of two 4WD
systems. The base 4WD setup must be disengaged on dry pavement.
Optional Autotrac 4WD can be left engaged on dry pavement.
Both systems include low-range gearing.
Standard Features, Options
Packages and Style
The 2004 Sierra is given a
chrome brush-up for an all-new look. All base models have
an attractive chrome grille-surround, chrome steel wheels
and a chrome rear bumper as standard equipment. Also standard
for 2004 is cruise control.
The Sierra’s style and design
are all focused on the rougher side of driving. New 17-inch
aluminum wheels with low-rolling-resistance tires are now
available on four-wheel drive 1500 Series pickups.
An optional Z82 trailering
package features items such as a heavy-duty hitch platform,
an integrated electric brake connection, wiring harness and
a high-capacity air cleaner.
