Used 2004 Honda Accord

refinement from the Civic, and it is just as popular. The midsize car comes in coupe and sedan styles, with trim levels galore. Even bare bones models are nice, while top line EX models almost round in under the luxury tag—just without the attending price.

New for 2004 are satellite radio and the expanded availability of curtain side airbags. The Accord comes with two engines and in a total of six trims. DX models start things off with all necessities, while the top-line EX V6 has power, style, comfort and grace—everything you want in a moderately price car.

Antilock brakes are standard on all Accords, while V6 models add traction control. Front side airbags are standard on V6 models and the EX model with an I4 engine. This year, the curtain side airbags are standard on all EX models.

Under the Hood

The base engine, which can be had with DX, LX and EX trims, is a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder model. It gives front-wheel drive Accords 160 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 161 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmissions are both available.

LX and EX trims can also be fitted with the V6 engine. It has a 3.0-liter design, and it produces up to 240 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 212 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. With this engine, customers can choose between 6-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmission.

Both engines feature variable valve timing and lift electronic control (VTEC) technology. VTEC uses two distinct sets of valve timing and lift specifications to optimize both low-rpm torque and high-rpm horsepower. The low coefficient of drag then enhances the Accord’s fuel efficiency and reduces wind noise.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

Both two-door coupes and four-door sedans can seat five passengers, with roughly comparable cargo volumes.

At one end of the spectrum you’ve got the base DX model, which comes with an AM/FM/CD player, cloth upholstery and power windows. At the other end, there’s the top-line EX V6 trim. It has dual-zone automatic climate controls, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats and satellite radio.

One of the major options for 2004 is a navigation system. It uses voice activation to control audio, climate and navigation functions.
