Used 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe
Buying Guide for the Hyundai Santa Fe:
The Santa Fe is the only sport utility vehicle that Hyundai
offers, and as such is given quite a bit of close scrutiny.
Every aspect of the compact model receives a once-over, then
a twice-over. The result is a model with superior components,
but without an exaggerated price.
For 2004, Hyundai manufacturers give customers three models
that provide rugged V6 power—something many people simply
crave in their SUVs. There is no question about getting up
to speed with these versions of the Santa Fe.
There are many things to like about the Santa Fe. From ruggedness
and durability to comfort and value, it has a lot to offer.
Side-impact air bags are standard, and GLS and LX versions
come with a 218-watt Monsoon stereo. In addition, the Santa
Fe is backed by Hyundai's long and comprehensive warranty
Under the Hood
The base Santa Fe is front-wheel drive only. It is driven
by a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that produces up to
138 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque.
GLS 2.7 models get their title from the 2.7-liter V6 engine
they house. One of two V6s in the lineup, it delivers a very
respectable 173 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque.
With GLS 3.5 and top-line LX models, speed is derived from
a tough 3.5-liter V6 engine. Tops in the family, it cranks
out 195 horsepower and 219 lb-ft of torque.
With the exception of the base model, all other Santa Fes
can be purchased with standard all-wheel drive. GLS 3.5 and
LX models have antilock brakes. They are an option with other
trims.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
Entering and exiting the Santa Fe is easy thanks to big,
comfortable door handles and a low step-in height. The shifter
knob, stereo controls and climate controls are also large
and thick.
The Santa Fe comes nicely appointed at the base level, well-appointed
at the GLS level and practically decadent at the top of the
list. LX trims feature such standard interior equipment as
automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated front
seats, an AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer, an automatic
day/night rearview mirror and a universal garage-door opener.
If you want, you can deck out the interior of the Santa Fe
with an optional woodgrain trim. Other options include a cargo
tray and running boards.
