Used 2004 Nissan Altima

Buying Guide for the Nissan Altima:

There’s simply no doubting the Altima’s claim that it delivers exceptional performance. After all, the 3.5 SE uses Nissan's VQ 6-cylinder engine, the same one that currently powers the Nissan 350Z, Maxima, Pathfinder and Murano.

In itself, that fact is not a big deal. But when you realize that Ward’s AutoWorld and Ward’s Engine & Vehicle Technology Update have chosen the engine as one of the “Ten Best” for nine straight years, it does prove quite a point.

The 2004 Altima doesn’t receive any changes after its big redesign. It is offered in four trims: 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 SL and 3.5 SE. The SE is the only model of them all to offer 17-inch wheels versus 16-inch ones. It also makes more options available.

Under the Hood

2.5 models were given their name because of the 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine under their hoods. It gives the front-wheel drive Altima 175 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 180 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

The aforementioned engine under the hood of the distinct 3.5 SE model delivers up to 245 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 246 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. Like most Altima models, it can be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

All 2004 Altimas have a power steering setup that makes them quite easy to handle. The SE gets upgraded suspension components that translate into a much more comfortable ride.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The four-door Altima is roomy enough to seat five passengers without complaint. Nissan boasts that it has 103 cubic feet of interior space—the result of which is good head and legroom.

The seating arrangement up front allows drivers and front passengers to personalize their desired settings with ease. The adjustments are 4-way manual on the 2.5 base model, 8-way manual on the 2.5 S and an 8-way power driver's seat standard on the 2.5 SL and 3.5 SE.

Up at the top of the 2.5 trim (SL) and standard with the 3.5 SE, the Altima is decked out with features. Leather upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, heated power mirrors and a Bose AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer are all included.
