Used 2004 Nissan Maxima

Buying Guide for the Nissan Maxima:

One of Nissan’s mainstays in the mid-size sedan segment, the 2004 Maxima is redesigned for the new year. The Maxima now uses a platform shared by another Nissan perennial, the Altima, and it has different dimensions than last year. Longer in wheelbase and overall length and a little heavier, the Maxima has hit a bit of a growth spurt in 2004.

The result is a more commanding feel on the road. The engine is boosted up to 265 horsepower for 2004, making it the fastest Maxima ever. The handling remains tight and on the inside there’s plenty of room and comfort to relax in.

Under the Hood

The engine powering the Maxima has a history of accolades on its mantle. For the ninth straight year it has appeared on the “Ten Best” engine list from Ward’s Auto World. A 3.5-liter V6, it generates the 265 horsepower at 5800 rpm and provides 255 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm.

The engine is mated to either a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capability or 6-speed manual. Uplevel SL models come with standard 4-speed automatic transmission.

Maxima's all-new, mostly aluminum multi-link independent rear suspension was inspired by racing technology. It features an aluminum subframe that isolates the suspension from the cabin and achieves precise feel when cornering.

Standard Features, Options Packages and Style

The 2004 Maxima continues to be a four-door, five-passenger sedan. With a maximum of 43.6 inches of front legroom and a minimum of 36.5 inches in the rear, there’s enough space to accommodate adults in all seating positions.

The entry-level SE models comes appointed with air conditioning with dual-zone automatic controls, a tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control, power mirrors, windows and door locks, an AM/FM/cassette/CD player and more. To that the SL adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated power mirrors and a Bose AM/FM radio with in-dash 6-disc CD changer.

The options list addresses safety, style and comfort. It includes an antiskid system, satellite radio and a rear spoiler (SE model).
