Used 2004 Volkswagen Beetle
Buying Guide for the Volkswagen Beetle:
Like other Volkswagen models, the 2004 Beetle is offered
to consumers in an array of different trim levels. This lets
you really run the gamut in terms of standard features. It
also helps wavering shoppers finally come to a decision.
However, no matter which model they choose, customers can
rest assured that each and every New Beetle will provide a
sporty, responsive ride. Of course, as a Volkswagen, the New
Beetle is also able to cross off a few other important points
on the list of automotive quality: namely durability, safety
and comfort.
2004 Beetles can be had as two-door hatchbacks, or as two-door
convertibles. If you live in a place where the sun is always
warm, the convertible is the only way to go.
Under the Hood
Just as the New Beetle mimics other Volkswagen models by
coming in a number of trims, it also borrows some of their
inline 4-cylinder engines. They give the front-wheel drive
New Beetle plenty of get-up-and-go.
The first engine, offered with base GL models, is a 2.0-liter
inline 4-cylinder model. It offers 115 horsepower and 122
lb-ft of torque. The next engine on the lot is a 1.9-liter
turbodiesel I4 with 100 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.
Third up in terms of power is a 1.8-liter I4 engine. It delivers
150 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque.
The strongest engine available for 2004 is a 1.8-liter turbocharged
I4. It pumps out 180 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. New
Beetles with this I4 can practically take off and fly away.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The 2004 Beetle convertible is available with a manual or
semi-automatic cloth-lined top that features three layers
to ensure excellent insulation and appearance. The power top
is very easy to operate, opening and closing in a mere 13
seconds. An optional windblocker helps protect convertible
passengers during open-air trips.
The cabins of 2004 New Beetles are quite comfortable and
simply designed. In addition, they are also safe. All models
receive dual front airbags, front side airbags, front seat
active head restraints and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes.
For 2004, New Beetles can be purchased with Volkswagen's
Telematics emergency and concierge system. Other changes for
the new year include restyled wheels and available xenon headlights.
A CD player that reads MP3-formatted discs will be offered
later in the model year.
