Used 2004 Volvo XC70
Buying Guide for the Volvo XC70:
The XC70 is one of the models that has served to establish
Volvo as the premier manufacturer of functional wagons. Like
all Volvos, the XC70 is reliable, roomy and safe. But with
the XC70, it goes far beyond that.
To begin with, the XC70 sits higher up on a raised suspension
setup and has the look and feel like that of a sport utility
vehicle. Throw in all-wheel drive and you can see why Volvo
says that when the XC70 was introduced, it was perhaps the
first true luxury crossover vehicle.
Nothing can stay unchanged forever, so 2004 XC70s get a few
upgrades. New models now have optional Bi-Xenon gas-discharge
headlamps, a flip-and-fold keyless entry remote and ZF rack-and-pinion
steering. There are also two new colors: Crystal Green pearl
and Ice White.
Under the Hood
The 2004 XC70 uses the same new engine it received last year.
It is a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline 5-cylinder model capable
of generating 208 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 236 lb-ft of
torque at 1500 rpm. Mated to the engine is a standard 5-speed
Geartronic transmission that allows either fully automatic
or driver selectable gear changes.
For exceptional handling and sure-footedness, the XC70 employs
an advanced Haldex all-wheel-drive system. The electronically-controlled
system reacts to wheel slippage, routing power to the wheels
with greater traction almost instantaneously—Volvos says this
happens in just one-seventh of a wheel rotation.
There are many other engineering features that contribute
to the XC70’s stability and ride comfort. Its rack-and-pinion
steering makes it easy to maneuver, while 4-wheel independent
suspension and traction control maintain an even, responsive
control.
Standard Features, Options Packages and Style
The XC70 has virtually the same dimensions as the V70 wagon.
Both have four-doors and two rows of seating that accommodate
up to five passengers. In addition, both have a very useful
71.4 cubic feet of cargo volume.
There is only one 2004 Volvo XC70 trim offered, and it is
very well equipped. Standard features include a tilt/telescoping
leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, heated
front bucket seats, a memory system (driver seat, mirrors),
an AM/FM/cassette/CD player, outside-temperature indicator
and rain-sensing wipers.
Buyers can also turn to the options list for more features.
Some of the names that will pop out are a navigation system
and the On-Call Plus telematics system.
