Many Americans clock thousands of hours and miles in their vehicle every year. This is why so many consumers look for those extra details and features aimed at making their drive more comfortable, convenient, and fun. For these consumers, luxury sedans fit the bill.
Cadillac has long been America's answer to BMW and Mercedes. The new 2019 Cadillac CT6 full-size luxury sedan offers drivers an excellent ride and superior styling. Coming in at a lower price point than many of its competitors, the CT6 has many of the features and touches expected of a vehicle in this category.
The CT6 is one of the lightest cars in its class. This, combined with the efficient engine options, gives it one of the best fuel economy ratings for full-size luxury sedans. In fact, the new 2019 CT6 can get up to 24 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway.
In 2019, Cadillac offers consumers four different well-equipped trim levels to choose from. Whether they go with the entry-level Luxury or top-of-the-line Platinum, buyers will discover that many of today's most desired features come standard on the CT6. There is also a Sport trim aimed at those who value performance above all else.
The following is a guide outlining the differences between the trim levels. It is intended to assist consumers in determining the right version of the 2019 Cadillac CT6 for them.
Compare the 2019 Cadillac CT6 Luxury vs Premium Luxury Trims. What is the difference?
The entry-level CT6 Luxury comes equipped with one of two engines. If drivers go with all-wheel-drive, they get a 3.6-liter V6 that can provide drivers with 335-horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission featuring an electronic precision shift. Buyers will get to enjoy paddle shifters and driver-selectable modes.
There is also a rear-wheel-drive version of this vehicle. This version is powered by a 2.0-liter Turbo 4-cylinder engine that produces 237-horsepower as well as 258 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is used for this engine as well.
On the exterior of the Luxury trim, drivers will notice a specialized grille, satin-chrome accents, and 19-inch wheels with a sterling silver finish. The CT6 Luxury also features Bi-LED high-/low-beam projector headlamps. All trims feature the distinctive LED light pipe signature offered by Cadillac.
Inside the Luxury trim, consumers will find leather seating surfaces, 14-way adjustable front seats and 2-way power lumbar, an HD rear camera, and a wireless charging port. This trim gives drivers an 8" reconfigurable DIC (driver info center) cluster and a memory package. Drivers will be able to take advantage of an adaptive remote start.
There is a lot of standard tech on the 2019 CT6. It features the Cadillac user experience with the 10.2-inch diagonal screen. This system is able to be customized to the needs of the consumer and handles communication and entertainment. There is Bluetooth connectivity, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi HotSpot, and USB and auxiliary connectivity. The trim comes standard with an 8-speaker premium Bose sound system. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration are included.
The next trim level up is known as the Premium Luxury. It also has both all-wheel and rear-wheel-drive options with the same engines. The Premium Luxury trim adds Automatic Vehicle Hold. This feature can be turned on and off and allows drivers to take their foot off of the brake pedal when stopped. It is intended to reduce fatigue for the driver when they are stuck in stop-and-go traffic.
Consumers who choose to go with the Premium Luxury trim will add an UltraView power sunroof and concierge lighting. The sunroof spans both the front and back seats and includes a power sunshade. The front seats will become adjustable 16 ways and heated with 4-way power lumbar. It adds IntelliBeam headlights and illuminating door handles as well. The Cadillac user experience system adds navigation. This trim also gains heated front seats and steering wheel. Another addition to the CT6 made by the Premium Luxury trim is the hands-free decklid with the Cadillac branded projection light.
On the Luxury trim, the only active driver assistance safety feature is Park Assist. The Premium Luxury adds Automatic Parking Assist with Braking, HD Surround Vision, and a Surround Vision Recorder. Surround Vision uses cameras placed in the front, sides, and rear of the CT6 to display the entire area around the vehicle. The Surround Vision Recorder stores data on an SD card located in the trunk of the vehicle. This feature can be used to monitor the vehicle in case of suspected tampering or just record a particularly memorable drive.
The Driver Awareness Package comes standard on this trim. This package includes popular safety features like Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Forward Collision Alert.
Many of the features on the Premium Luxury trim can be added to the Luxury trim through the Driver Awareness and Convenience Package. This adds both safety features and things such as the power sunroof and heated front seats. It also adds the navigation feature to the infotainment system.
Compare the 2019 CT6 Premium Luxury vs Sport Trims. What is the difference?
Those looking for a more athletic version of the CT6 will be interested in the Sport trim. It is the first level to come equipped with the 3.0-liter V6 Twin Turbo engine that produces 404-horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. This engine also works well with the 10-speed automatic transmission with an electronic precision shift. The Sport trim is only available with all-wheel-drive.
Distinguishing this trim from the others is the unique Sport grille and the rear spoiler. This trim adds dark side glass window moldings and body color lower door moldings. The finish on the 19-inch wheels that the Sport trim sits on is Midnight Silver. Inside the cabin, consumers will find carbon fiber deco trim.
Perhaps most importantly for those interested in the Sport trim is the addition of ground effects. These aerodynamic effects were added to this version of the CT6 to help increase downforce. Cadillac gives the Sport trim rear extensions, front splitters, and rockers.
Compare the CT6 Sport vs Platinum Trims. What is the difference?
There is a significant jump between both features and prices between the Sport and Platinum trim levels. It is powered by the same engine as the Sport trim but comes standard with magnetic ride control and active rear steering. Magnetic ride control is a system that controls the shock absorbers of the vehicle in real-time, allowing it to adjust to different road conditions. It also is only available with all-wheel-drive. Otherwise, the Platinum trim builds off of the Premium Luxury model. It lacks the Sport grille and rear spoiler.
Inside the Platinum edition, consumers will find that the rear outboard seats are heated. They also recline, massage, and are ventilated. There is a rear entertainment system featuring 10-inch diagonal screens, two wireless dual-channel headphones, and HDMI ports. In the front, buyers can enjoy 20-way adjustable power ventilated seats with massage capability.
When it comes to technology, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 Platinum pulls out all of the stops. There is a full-color reconfigurable Heads-Up Display. Drivers can also take advantage of the Rear Camera Mirror, which replaces a traditional rearview mirror with a high-resolution video stream. This ends up giving drivers a wider and less obstructed view of what is behind them. When it comes to the sound system, consumers will likely be impressed by the 34-speaker Bose Panaray that comes standard in the Platinum.
As for safety features, this trim adds forward and reverse automatic braking as well as Night Vision. The technology used in Night Vision allows the vehicle to detect pedestrians and large animals in the area beyond what is illuminated by the headlights. An infrared camera is mounted on the grille and provides the driver the information through the Driver's Information Center.
The Platinum trim is the first to include the Super Cruise package as a standard feature. This package is optional on the Premium Luxury and Sport trims and unavailable on the entry-level Luxury trim. The Super Cruise Driver Assistance feature is Cadillac's cutting edge semi-autonomous driving system. It is the first of its kind to allow hands-free driving on limited access freeways.
Final Thoughts
To really get the most out of this vehicle, consumers will want to go with a version with the 3.0-liter V6 Twin Turbo engine. While the Platinum trim has many attractive features, it also has a much higher price tag. Due to this, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 Sport is the way to go.
Consumers can choose to add the Comfort and Technology Package to their CT6 Sport to gain the heated rear seats, rear camera mirror, Head-Up Display, 12-inch reconfigurable cluster, and power ventilated front seats. They should also consider the Super Cruise Package. This adds many driver-assistance features, such as a Driver Attention System and everything in the Driver Assist Package. It also adds the Super Cruise Driver Assistance feature.
The Sport trim of the CT6 offers drivers a good blend of performance, style, technology, and safety features.
