What 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

Since its inception all the way back in 1967, the Chevy Camaro has been a well-loved sports car. Although it has changed with the times, the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro retains its muscle car image that has become so well loved by Chevy enthusiasts. Redesigned for the model year, the new Camaro promises quite a few exciting changes.

All of the Camaro's trims (the base LS, LT, SS, and ZL1) have quite a bit of power to them. They are all built to perform, and the line-topping ZL1 certainly feels worthy of being driven on a race track. Also, whether you order them as a coupe or convertible, the Camaro trims stand out from the crowd with their unique design elements.

So, which trim level is the right one for your needs? Will the base LS trim satisfy you, or should you opt for something a bit sportier? Since there are four trim levels to choose from, let us break the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro down and compare each trim. By the end of this review, you should have a much clearer perspective on which trim level you should buy.

Compare the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro LS vs LT Trims. What is the difference?

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro's base trim, the LS, is, by all means, a well-priced and well-equipped base. Even though it lacks some of the standard features found on the higher trims, it does offer a lot of them as options contained in packages. But what you do get for the starting MSRP is nothing to scoff at.

The LS trim is powered by a 2.0-L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that provides the vehicle with 275 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels. As you can imagine, this much power gets the Camaro up and going in a mere matter of seconds. The engine is paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, but if you aren't keen on driving a stick, there is an optional 8-speed paddle shift automatic transmission available.

Other standard mechanical features include power steering and a sport suspension. Also, the vehicle comes with StabiliTrak, which is Chevy's electronic stability control. It comes with a traction control function that keeps the vehicle tracking safely on the road surface.

The exterior has quite a few options for customization. Those cool-looking stripes you see going down the sides of classic muscle cars? You can choose to equip those on the Camaro. You can also opt for a front license plate bracket, even if you do not technically need to have one. You also get a fin-style antenna on the body of the vehicle.

On the inside, the LS trim comes with a standard 6-speaker audio system, single-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, a manually-adjustable 4-way passenger seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot connectivity is also a standard feature in the base LS trim, which makes for a welcome addition, as many other base trims do not have this as a standard feature.

The LS also gets equipped with a few important safety features. Among the list are a Teen Driver system (which allows owners to configure the vehicle's settings for their new teenage drivers), a rear-view camera, and an electronic parking brake. Noticeably absent, however, are quite a few driver assists (like forward collision alert) that do come standard on other vehicles.

The LT is somewhat similarly equipped. The 2.0-L engine comes standard, but on this trim level, you can upgrade to the 3.6-L V6 engine. This engine gets 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. It, too, is matched with the 6-speed manual transmission and can also be mated with the 8-speed automatic. Unlike the LS, you can opt for a power sunroof and the Bose 9-speaker sound system.

There are a few more mechanical options available on the LT than on the LS. For example, on the LT, you can equip an external engine oil cooler, auxiliary engine coolant, and an extra capacity cooling system. You can also slap a performance suspension onto the LT if the standard sport suspension does not ring your bell. And, if the standard tires are not your thing, there are several different 20-inch options that you can upgrade to.

A lot of what you see on the inside of the LT is what you get on the base trim. The safety features are essentially the same, as are most of the infotainment ones. However, the LT does give you access to a trial subscription of SiriusXM Radio, a 6-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, and optional upgrades on the front bucket seats and steering wheel and shift knob fabric.

Compare the 2019 Camaro LT vs SS Trims. What is the difference?

2019 Chevrolet Camaro LT vs SS. What is the difference?

Do you crave even more power than what the LT has to offer? If so, stepping it up to the SS trim gives you an immensely powerful 6.2-L V8 engine that nets you 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. You have the option of adding the SS 1LE Track Performance Package, which includes upgraded 20-inch wheels, red calipers plastered with the 1LE logo, a suede-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a head-up display.

Additionally, the SS gets upgraded Brembo rear and front performance antilock brakes. The external engine oil cooler, auxiliary engine coolant, and extra capacity cooling system that are optional on the LT are standard issue on the SS, as is the performance suspension. Magnetic ride control and an upgraded performance-tuned suspension can be added at your will.

The vehicle's exterior is a bit different from the two lower trim levels. It sits atop 20-inch five-spoke silver-painted aluminum wheels and includes sticky summer tires as opposed to the all-season ones that come on the LS and LT. You can choose to upgrade to several different types of 20-inch wheels and summer-only Goodyear Eagle tires.

The cabin on the SS looks fairly similar to that in the LT. One noticeable difference is that the front visor mirrors are illuminated. Other than that, you can expect to see only some minor nuances between the two cockpits. Their infotainment and safety features are mostly the same as well, which will make the cheaper LT a more likely candidate for trim-level-of-choice if engine power does not matter.

Compare the Camaro SS vs ZL1 Trims. What is the difference?

Sitting at the very top of the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro line-up is the ZL1. On this state-of-the-art trim level, the 9-speaker Bose sound system comes standard, as do rear park assist and a head-up display. Also, the 6.2-L engine gets a supercharged boost, giving it a mind-blowing 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. In other words, this Camaro was built for the race track but can handle equally well on the highway. If its performance you want, this is Chevy's pinnacle.

Other standard mechanical features include the performance-tuned suspension, a dual-exhaust mode, and magnetic ride control. On the outside, you also get a few more standard and optional features, such as heated side mirrors, standard Goodyear Eagle tires, and 19-inch low gloss black-painted forged aluminum wheels. A visible carbon fiber weave insert for the car's hood is also available if you desire it.

The ZL1's interior also marks a pretty stark contrast from the lower trim levels. It features dual-zone automatic climate control, which pumps air quite efficiently throughout the cabin. Additionally, spectrum lighting illuminates the cabin, and the sill plates are also lit up. Memory settings are available for the driver seat, which, along with the front passenger seat, is heated and ventilated. The seats are the performance bucket seats that come optional on the LT. The steering wheel is also heated for the driver's comfort during cool winter months. A wireless charging station also comes standard, allowing you to easily charge your wireless devices while you drive.

There are also more safety features equipped on the ZL1 trim level. For example, forward collision alert and lane change alert with side blind zone alert are included as standard driver aids. Rear cross traffic alert is included as well. The fact that these features are reserved for the most expensive trim level is somewhat mind-boggling, since they tend to be included on the base trims of other vehicles in this segment. Some drivers might not see them as being essential, but they certainly can come in handy, especially if you do a lot of driving on busy roads and highways.

Final Thoughts

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro gives customers four strong options for trim levels. Even the base LS has a remarkably powerful engine. And, really, all of these models look ridiculously cool on the outside thanks to their muscle car appeal.

However, if you are looking for the best deal, the LT might just be your top pick. It is only the second trim level up, but the SS does not have too many serious differences aside from the engine. The LT gives you an ample amount of power as it is, and the features that you get give you enough bang for your buck.

Of course, should you require something with a ludicrous amount of horsepower and torque, the top-of-the-line ZL1 trim is the way to go.
