What 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

The Chevrolet Tahoe has become one of the top large SUVs available despite serious competition in the category. The exceedingly large SUV has three rows of seating and comes as a four door vehicle. It is only outmatched in size by the Chevrolet Suburban. The Tahoe has a very good predicted reliability history coming into the 2019 model year, and most experts expect that to continue. With reliability built into every Tahoe, the next question is what one makes the most sense for individual buyers.

The Tahoe is an imposing presence on the road, but it is the small details that make it such a smart buy. It seats a maximum of up to eight passengers easily, though some buyers will opt for other seating configurations.

The 2019 Tahoe comes in three different trim levels; the LS, LT and Premier with multiple available packages for each level. This guide will help buyers decide which configuration of trim levels and available packages are best for them.

Compare the 2019 Tahoe LS vs LT Trims. What is the difference?

The LS trim level of the Tahoe is as low as buyers can go as far as price, but this is not a stripped down model. The LS starts at $47,900 and includes some great standard features.

The LS has a powerful 5.3 Liter V8 engine with 355 horsepower. The strong engine is able to keep the Tahoe a capable vehicle at any speed. The fuel economy is also very respectable at 15 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. The LS comes with a six speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive. All trim levels can be upgraded to all wheel drive, but the base engine and six speed transmission cannot be upgraded at the LS and LT levels.

The Tahoe LS is a capable vehicle with lots of premium amenities. It offers driver convenience technology with rain sensing front wipers, rear view monitor and rear park assist. The LS also has Bluetooth capabilities for most mobile devices for hands free calling. The LS also gives the driver power heated mirrors and rear window defroster and wiper controls. The LS comes standard with TeenDriver technology that limits vehicle functions to safe levels.

Passengers can also enjoy the ride in the Tahoe LS. Each Tahoe comes standard with power adjustable front passenger seat, tri-zone climate control and 11 charging locations including a 110 volt outlet. The LS is updated to allow technological accommodations. It comes with a built in 4G Hotspot that can accommodate up to seven devices.

The infotainment system in the LS is an eight inch touchscreen featuring Chevrolet's MyLink interface. The LS also provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions for mobile device integration into the infotainment system. The sound system includes Satellite Radio, HD radio, six speakers and CD player.

The LS has also been equipped with premium projector beam headlights and LED daytime running lights and tail lights.

While the LS comes loaded with features, some buyers may want to take advantage of the Custom Edition package, which actually lowers the LS price by $4,000 by eliminating the third row bench seat. This seating configuration is only available on the LS.

Also exclusively available on the LS is the Enhanced Driver Alert Package. This package only adds $695 to the total price of the LS, but equips the vehicle with a lot of extra driver assistance technology. The smart buyer will get this package because it includes a safety alert seat, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and automatic emergency braking.

The LS also offers the All-Season package. This adds 20 inch wheels with all-season tires, the advanced towing package, all-weather floor mats and an all-weather rear cargo mat.

While the LS has some great standard and premium features, many buyers will have to consider the upside to upgrading to the LT trim level.

The LT trim level refinishes the seats in leather. Both of the front captain chairs are heated and have ten way power adjustments including memory settings for the driver seat. The standard interior colors are jet black, dark ash and dune leather. The darker seats are set off by jet black accents, while the lighter dune leather seats are set off by a cocoa accent style.

The LT also comes with all the driver assist technology available as an upgrade for the LS. This includes the safety alert seat and all the other features in the Enhanced Driver Alert Package. The LT also comes with a programmable power lift gate to allow for maximum convenience when loading and unloading cargo.

The LT also features an upgraded sound system. The LT has a Bose premium audio system with three more speakers and a subwoofer for excellent audio.

The LT also packs in a few extra conveniences like power adjustable pedals, a auto dimming rear view mirror and a universal home remote.

Though the LT is a moderate step up in price, buyers will have to get the LT to get access to additional packages. The add on packages include the expansive Luxury Package. This package adds a lot of convenience features. The list includes remote start, power folding mirrors and memory settings for the mirrors, and power telescopic steering wheel. This package also offers power fold down second and third row seating and heated outboard seating in the second row. It also adds front and rear park assist, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring during lane changes.

Also available for the LT is the Sun, Entertainment and Destinations package. It adds a power sunroof, a rear seat entertainment system with Blu-ray capabilities and an all access membership to Sirius XM, which includes NavTraffic and Travel Link.

While the LT offers the convenience of power folding third row seats, some buyers will want to also change the second row from a bench seat for three to two bucket seats.

The LT also features multiple exterior appearance packages. The LT Signature package integrates a chrome grill and chrome assist steps. The LT Signature also sports 20" chrome wheels. The Texas Edition includes all the amenities of the Luxury package and also features Texas Edition emblems and black roof rack cross rails.

The LT Z71 adds off-road capabilities to the resume of the Tahoe. The Z71 has a 3.42 rear axle ratio and an AutoTrac transfer case for added terrain capabilities. It is also styled to be more rugged with tubular assist steps and a rugged skidplate. The Tahoe Z71 edition also tacks on hill descent control and park assist capabilities.

Compare the 2019 Chevrolet LT vs Premier Trims. What is the difference?

The big difference between the LT and the Premier is the available 6.2 liter V8. It is not included in the Premier base price. Buyers that want the extra horsepower will have to pay at least an extra $5,000.

Regardless of whether buyers opt for the top of the line V8, the Premier comes with a lot of premium features and offers access to the best the Tahoe has to offer. All Tahoe Premier vehicles are equipped with an upgraded Magnetic Ride Control Suspension. While the Premier does offer some additional packages, the most luxurious package would seemingly be the Premier Plus.

The regular Premier comes with either jet black or dune perforated leather seating. Buyers can upgrade to the mahogany leather as another option. The front seats are heated and ventilated. The second row has heated bucket seats with power release, and the third row is a bench seat with power fold capabilities. The Premier also gets an audio system upgrade. Bose Centerpoint surround sound technology is provided through ten speakers. The Premier also includes navigation and a heated steering wheel.

The Premier Plus edition adds even more to the final price tag, but includes the larger engine, power sunroof, power retractable assist steps, heads up display, advanced driver information center and mahogany leather seats. The bigger engine in the Premier Plus and the Premier comes with a ten speed automatic transmission and maximum towing capacity of 8,600 lbs.

Final Thoughts

The Chevrolet Tahoe offers three basic trim levels that vary greatly in price. Both the LS and the Premier make excellent choices, but for obviously different reasons. The LS is a base model that has enough value built in to make it a smart choice for many large SUV buyers. The optional add on driver assistance package makes a smart choice for added value. Buyers looking for a comfortable, capable vehicle that adds a lot of great features can't go wrong with the base LS.

On the other hand, the Premier makes a good case for buyers looking to enjoy the luxurious end of the category. The Premier price is much lower than comparable top end trim levels in the category. It has many high quality upgrades that buyers will truly enjoy. The heads up display and mahogany leather beckon the more discerning buyer to consider this SUV as a more reasonable option compared to vehicles in the luxury class. The Chevy Tahoe is a reliable and capable vehicle that has plenty of promise as a value based option for some individuals. It also has advanced features and luxurious details that make it a very desirable upscale vehicle.
