What 2020 Chevrolet Equinox Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

While the Chevrolet Equinox has always been a practical and relatively stylish compact SUV. This has primarily been because there is quite a broad range of features included as standard, with the bulk of these being seen from the base trim onwards. Despite this, it also has quite a large number of potential drawbacks, although much of this can depend on a buyer’s personal preference.

This extends to the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox range, each of which’s trims have a variety of notable pros and cons. Depending on which trim level is chosen, there could be quite a substantial number of features to take advantage of. While each of the trim levels has their differences, there are also a few notable similarities.

One of the most important of these can be seen with the engine that’s available with the range, a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that makes use of four cylinders. This is quite underpowered for the Equinox’s size, and puts out a modest 170 horsepower. However, there is the option of a slightly larger 2-liter that’s included as an optional upgrade.

With this also being turbocharged, it should be much better suited to the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox’s size. Potential buyers will be able to take advantage of either of these options regardless of trim, with both also coming with FWD or AWD options. Despite this, many potential buyers may feel somewhat underwhelmed by the horsepower that comes with the vehicle.

However, that hasn’t meant that there aren’t a few notable features that can be taken advantage of. Regardless of the trim level, the look and feel of the compact SUV can be quite appealing, which is one of the more notable reasons that many people have purchased in the past.

Alongside this is the fact that the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox range offers quite a significant fuel economy and a decent amount of handling. The compact SUV brings a steering system that provides easy control of the vehicle, with this being seen on the majority of trim levels that are on offer. However, this can vary significantly depending on which transmission system is taken advantage of.

This hasn’t meant that the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox doesn’t have any negative traits. In contrast, the drive can be somewhat more unpleasant than many people may have initially thought. While this is only seen to a small extent when in the city, it can be much more notable on the highway or if on a rough piece of road.

This can also be heavily affected by which transmission system is chosen, with some of the more standard features having a negative effect on the handling and drivability. Much of this can be because of the weight of the range, which can also be linked directly to the underwhelming engine size that comes as standard.

Despite this, there are quite a large number of reasons why compact SUV enthusiasts may want to consider the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. One of the primary reasons for this is that it can be a relatively affordable option in the class, with the range also bringing quite a large number of features as standard.

However, these can vary significantly depending on the trim level that’s chosen, where there is quite a large number of differences between them. These will need to be looked at carefully to ensure that drivers get the right model for them. There are four trims to take advantage of, with each providing various degrees of value for money.

There are a few notable differences in the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox’s trim levels that every potential buyer should take a look at.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox L Vs LS Trim Levels.  What’s The Difference?

While the L is the base 2020 Chevrolet Equinox trim, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t a variety of features to take advantage of. In contrast, there are quite a large number of features that are included as standard here, with the majority of these being appealing in various ways. As a result, there could be a large amount of value for money with the choice.

Many of these will be seen with the exterior of the vehicle, which has gotten a few tweaks and changes from the previous edition of the range. As a result, the car is quite visually appealing and is better looking than many other compact SUVs currently on the market. However, it should be noted that the Equinox is only slightly better than average in this regard.

Despite this, there are quite a large number of interior features that drivers may want to utilize. One of the most notable of these is the premium cloth material that’s used in the SUV. While the majority of other vehicles in the class include the fabric with their base model, it's rarely as high-quality as the one seen here.

As a result, it offers a certain amount of luxury from the start, with this also helping to add a large amount of comfort from the base 2020 Chevrolet Equinox trim. Alongside this are a few other features that the majority of drivers may want to consider. For example, the trim includes a driveline and ABS traction control program, which could be quite beneficial for a large number of people.

A keyfob keyless entry system that’s available for all doors of the vehicle could also be quite attractive for many drivers. Alongside this is an air conditioning system that’s quite effective. While some compact SUVs can provide a much higher-quality system than this, these can often be more expensive as a result. This should mean that the manual air conditioning here should prove to be a cost-effective option.

Potential owners may also see a few notable benefits to the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox L’s infotainment system, which also provides a few high-quality amenities. One of the largest of these is two monitors in the front row, which should give a large amount of entertainment during long journeys. This could be quite a useful benefit for owners with young families.

One of the last notable features seen in the infotainment system is the vehicle’s radio, which takes advantage of seek-scan technology and includes both AM and FM stations. While many drivers may be used to having a wider choice of stations with their compact SUV, the sound that’s available here is quite impressive.

As a result, the sound system’s quality more than makes up for the lack of stations that are on offer. One other notable feature that many people may be able to utilize is the silver aluminum wheels, which come in at a comfortable 17-inches.

Many people may believe that the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LS trim would offer quite a large number of improvements on the above. However, the majority of people will be disappointed, as there are almost no extras included with the choice to justify the price increase.

The only real difference that can be seen between the two trim levels can be seen in the transmissions. While the L offers a front-wheel-drive as standard, this is the only option available with the choice. In comparison, the LS allows buyers to choose between the FWD and an AWD.

While this will have a noticeable impact on price, choosing the latter of these two options should have a positive effect on the performance and handling of the compact SUV.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LS Vs LT Trims.  What’s The Difference?

With the lack of differences to be seen between the L and LS, many people might expect the same treatment with the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LT. However, there’s a pleasant surprise on offer here, as the trim offers quite a large number of improvements and upgrades when compared to the lower-end options. As such, there are a few notable things on offer that many people may want to take advantage of.

One of the most notable of these is seen in the engine configuration, with the LT trim taking advantage of quite a few different choices in this regard. While many people would expect the decision between both FWD and AWD, the overall engine has been upgraded to be somewhat more powerful than the base model.

However, there are quite a large number of other features that the majority of potential buyers will want to capitalize on. The majority of these focus on the interior of the vehicle, with there being a few notable additions to the infotainment and comfort features that come with the trim. Alongside this are a few tweaks and improvements to the design of the vehicle’s exterior, which makes it a somewhat better-looking compact SUV.

One of the largest changes that have been made is lumbar support for the driver’s seat, which could be quite a large benefit. The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LT trim also offers heated mirrors, which could be quite a large benefit during the winter months, although it mightn’t be the most significant feature to attract a potential buyer.

The last core feature that’s been changed and improved audio system. While this still uses seek-scan technology, drivers will be able to take advantage of more stations, with this including Satellite and SiriusXM on top of the AM/FM stations that were already available. Outside of this, there are relatively few differences between this and the lower-end trims.

Compare the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LT Vs Premier Trim Levels.  What’s The Difference?

The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox range seems to offer quite a larger number of features with each trim that’s available. While the lower-end LS had almost no improvements on the L, the Premier does offer quite a significant amount, with this being more than the previous two models added to their lower-end counterparts.

As a result, this could be one of the more attractive Equinox trims on offer, which is further enhanced by how much value is offered. This should mean that it’s one of the more cost-effective trims currently available, which can be seen across the majority of areas.

This is first seen on the exterior of the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox Premier trim, which offers much more style than each of the lower-end trims. The primary reason for this is that the various minor tweaks and adjustments have given the model a much sportier and luxurious appearance. One of the more notable changes here is the wheels, which are now slightly bigger at 18-inches, although they’re still made of the same material.

Outside of this, there are quite a large number of extra features seen inside the compact SUV, with the majority of these focusing on the comfort levels available with the option. Perhaps the most notable of these is a change in seating, with the driver’s and front passenger’s seats now being heated. These make use of heated-seatback and heat-cushion technology, which the majority of people may want to utilize.

However, this isn’t the only area where the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox’s comfort levels have been enhanced. Alongside the heating technology, the Premier trim makes use of an air conditioning system that features dual-zone controls in the front of the vehicle. As a result, drivers will be able to personalize the interior of the car’ s temperature much more than many other trims.

One of the most significant other changes seen in the interior is the addition of leather as the primary fabric across the compact SUV. As a result of the switch from cloth to leather, the Premier trim offers quite a large amount of comfort, not to mention the overall luxury that this helps to promote.

The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox Premier trim also includes fog lights in the front of the vehicle, which has two notable benefits. The first of these will be quite apparent in that they help promote overall safety, although the second may be just as attractive. This is because they have somewhat of an impact on how the SUV looks, with this feeding back into the overall style that’s on offer.

The last notable feature that’s included as standard here is that the Premier option includes rear-facing parking assistance. While the Chevrolet Equinox isn’t the largest SUV on offer, this can still be quite beneficial for the majority of drivers.

Which Trim to Choose?

May drivers will naturally need to choose which of the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox trims to choose. While this may initially seem as though it’s an overwhelming decision, it mightn’t be as difficult as many people may believe. This is primarily because many of the trim levels don’t add too much to the compact SUV.

As a result, the base model of the Equinox could be the more cost-effective choice on offer. For drivers looking for an upgrade that’s worth the money, the Premier trim is the better-recommended option.
