What 2023 Chevrolet Blazer Trim Should You Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

The Blazer has long been a staple of the Chevy line-up. While it is not exactly the rough-and-tumble off-roader that it was back in the 1990s, the Blazer is still a popular choice among buyers shopping in the SUV segment. These days, the Blazer is well-designed for on-the-road performance. The handling is nothing short of crisp, and the ride feels well-damped.

Since it is designed in a way that makes it look like a SUV-ized Camaro, the Blazer has a few downsides. Namely, read head space gets reduced due to the roof's design. Also, the Blazer's cargo volume is relatively small for this segment, coming in at 64 cubic feet of cargo space when you fold the rear seats down. This places it behind many competitors in this segment. With its tall lift-over height, the Blazer adds another challenge in trying to load big, heavy items.

The 2023 Chevrolet Blazer is the product of a slimmed-down line-up from last year. In 2022, Chevy did away with the base trims known as the L and 1LT. Those trim levels had engines that were vastly underpowered and were not all that well equipped with features. With the 2LT being the base trim now, the Blazer packs a lot more value into this line-up.

Also included in the changes from 2022 is the standard inclusion of a towing package with the all-wheel drive system. This adds some helpful features that make the Blazer a midsize SUV that functions as a capable towing vehicle.

The Blazer had been absent from the market from 2006 to 2018, and a lot sure changed in those years. When Chevy brought the Blazer back in 2019, they got some things right and some things wrong. It seems like Chevy is at least focused on getting more things right as time goes on, and they are listening to what consumers have to say about the different trim level options.

That being said, there are now just four trim levels to choose from, each of which has a good slew of features equipped on them. The 2023 Chevy Blazer line-up consists of the now-base 2LT, the 3LT, RS, and the line-topping Premier trim level. The 2LT, 3LT, and Premier trim levels are powered by a standard turbocharged 2.0-L four-cylinder engine that produces a maximum power output of 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Paired to this engine is a nine-speed automatic transmission. The RS comes with a standard 3.0-L V6 that is good for 308 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. You can opt for it on the other trim levels if you want that much power. Each trim has standard front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available for any of them, delivering more traction when needed.

So, which of the four 2023 Chevy Blazer trim levels serves up the most value? Which one will meet your needs? Read on through this comparison of the trim levels and learn which Blazer trim level we think will have the most appeal to the average buyer in this segment.

Compare the 2LT vs 3LT Trim Levels. What is the difference?

Up first is the 2023 Chevy Blazer's base trim, the 2LT. This trim level rides around on 18-inch wheels forged in alloy material. There are a slew of interior design elements, including a power adjustable driver's seat and tinting on the rear windows for a little extra privacy.

This trim level is outfitted with a respectable list of standard tech gadgets as well. You get SiriusXM Satellite Radio connectivity (via a free trial period) along with the six-speaker sound system. There are a total of four USB ports inside of the cabin, with two USB-A ports up front and two USB-C charging ports in the rear seats. An eight-inch infotainment touchscreen display comes equipped, and there is compatibility with smartphone apps via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Cruise control is also included, and the controls for that and the audio settings are mounted onto the steering wheel for ease of access.

Chevy outfits each Blazer trim level with a suite of standard advanced driver aids. Bundled into this suite are lane keeping assist (which, if your vehicle starts to drift over the lane, will gently steer the Blazer back into the center of its lane), lane departure warning (which will issue an alert if the Blazer starts to stray outside of the lane), and a forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking (which is able to detect an upcoming frontal crash and will help apply the brakes for you in order to avoid the collision).

Now, that might not be enough to suit your needs. If not, then you might want to think about upgrading to the 3LT trim level. On this trim level, you get heating functions for both front seats as well as the exterior side mirrors. Also, the seats are upholstered in a leather fabric that is comfortable and breathable. It gives the vehicle a slightly more upscale feel to it. In the back, a power liftgate makes it easier for you to open up into the cargo area.

A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert gets tacked onto the list of standard advanced driver aids. This system will let you know if there is another vehicle driving in your vehicle's blind spot when you either try to change lanes or need to go into reverse. However, that is the extent of the standard additions made to the 3LT trim level.

Compare the 3LT vs RS . What is the difference?

The RS trim level is set apart from the other trim levels by its standard inclusion of the V6 engine. It is quite obviously more powerful, echoing a sense of sport. There are not a vast amount of other changes to the Blazer's RS trim level, but you will find some larger 20-inch wheels and a power liftgate that has programming options built into it. What's more, you get body trim and a front grille that are given unique black tones. You will not find these decals on any of the other 2023 Chevy Blazer trim levels.

So, what will you find inside of the RS trim level? There are not a slew of upgrades here, either, but you will find a few things of note. The RS trim level gains a larger infotainment touchscreen display with a navigation system and voice controls built into it if you want to switch away from using the nav app on your cell phone. Also, the steering wheel gains a heating function, and there is a 120-volt power outlet that you can use as needed.

Compare the RS vs Premier Trim Level. What is the difference?

At the top of the 2023 Chevy Blazer's line-up, we have the Premier trim level. The Premier goes back to using the base turbo four-cylinder engine on the two lowest trim levels. Its silver and chrome exterior trim give it an element of distinction from the three lower trim levels, but it is otherwise equipped a lot like the RS trim.

Before we close this trim level comparison out, though, there are a few 2023 Chevy Blazer optional packages that are worth mentioning. Given that some of the trim levels aren't exactly crammed to the brim with features, you might want to consider putting them on. But, of course, each comes with an extra cost that you will need to consider in the buying process.

First up is the Sound and Technology package, which you can equip on the Blazer's 3LT trim level. If you do decide to equip this optional package, your Blazer will get an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen display with integrated navigation included, the 120-volt power outlet, and a premium Bose sound system with eight speakers. A few advanced driver aids get added, too. The 260-degree surround-view camera system gives you a top-down view of everything that is immediately surrounding the Chevy Blazer. Also, there is a digital rearview mirror that gives you a view out of the back even if you have the cargo area fully loaded to the roof with items.

If you decide to buy the RS or Premier trim level, you can opt to add a package that is known as the Enhanced Convenience package. This package is oriented toward providing more creature comforts, so you get features like ventilation for the front seats, a steering column that can be power adjusted, and heating on the rear outboard seats. It also comes with memory settings for the driver's seat and the premium eight-speaker Bose sound system.

Finally, the Driver Confidence II package can be equipped on either the RS or Premier, and it tacks on a few more tech-forward gadgets and advanced driver aids for a more well-rounded vehicle. This package gives the Chevy Blazer a wireless charging pad up front for your smartphone, a rear camera mirror, and the 360-degree surround-view camera system. On top of all that, you get a rear seat reminder (which reminds you to check the back seat for occupants before you exit the vehicle and walk away), advanced automatic emergency braking (which functions at higher rates of speed than the standard automatic emergency braking feature), and adaptive cruise control (which lets you set a safe follow distance between your Blazer and the vehicle driving in front of it).

Final Thoughts

While the 2023 Chevy Blazer line-up might not be quite as well equipped as other midsize SUVs on the market this year, there are still some good ways to configure it to your liking. What we recommend doing is sticking with the base 2LT trim level since it is the most affordable and has some options for adding on extras. For the price, it has a good amount of standard features, especially when it comes to tech gadgets.

However, if you go for the 2LT trim level, we definitely recommend equipping the Convenience and Driver Confidence package. You will likely find the features that it contains to be helpful and comfy since it gives you things like heated front seats, an automatically dimming rearview mirror, and remote vehicle start.

The 2023 Chevy Blazer is not the intense off-roader it was a few decades ago, but it is a capable on-the-road performer with an available V6 engine option that gives it a good amount of power. Of course, you can equip AWD if you want the additional traction that it gives during inclement weather. All in all, the Blazer is still in the process of making its comeback, but Chevy does seem to be listening to the constructive criticism given by the people who drive these midsize SUVs.
