If you have been considering buying an electric vehicle, one name that might have come up in your search is the Chevrolet Bolt EUV. It is larger than the standard Chevy Bolt and offers upgrades and features that you cannot get on that Bolt. There are more creature comforts, more spacious rows of seats, and the option for tacking on the hands-free Super Cruise driver aid from General Motors. It isn't quite as spirited in its handling performance as the smaller Bolt, nor would we really expect it to be - and, for the upgrades you get, that should be quite alright.
Despite not having a lot of extra room for cargo in the rear and no available option for an all-wheel drive system, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV is an affordable vehicle with a lot of value behind it. The DC fast-charging could stand to be a bit quicker, but it gets the job done and is a straightforward, user-oriented EUV. Even the integrated tech features as easy to get immersed in and require a very short learning curve for even those who are unused to in-vehicle infotainment systems.
The small crossover electric vehicle has a longer wheelbase than the hatchback Bolt EV, thereby offering more leg room in the second row. When you pump the battery up to full power, you get a beefy 247 miles of all electric range. This is only slightly less than the smaller Bolt, which comes in at 259 miles of pure electric range. But real-world tests reveal that the Bolt EUV can actually get about 265 miles of electric range on just one charge. Only a couple of other similarly sized vehicles are able to reach this highly set bar.
New for the 2023 Bolt EUV line-up is the ultra sporty Redline Edition - a package that slaps on some sleek red accents, aluminum 17-inch wheels, and your choice of white, red, or black body paint. Even the badges and mirror caps echo this uniquely sporty style. The Bolt EUV is far from being boring to look at normally, but this new appearance package makes it look even cooler.
One final thing worth noting about the whole Bolt EUV line-up for everyone living in the USA is that the government has instituted the Inflation Reduction Act to help make electric vehicles manufactured by GM exponentially more affordable. After GM had reached their 200,000-units-sold EV cap, they lost the federal income tax credit that came along with it. But now, with the Inflation Reduction Act in place, the cap is gone and the tax credit once again there for GM. Just make sure you check all of the restrictions that exist for both buyers and vehicles.
That being said, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV gives you two trim level choices to pick from: the base LT and the line-topping Premier trim level. There are a handful of optional packages available, though, so you can make the Bolt EUV feel like it is uniquely yours - including the cool new Redline Edition package. Let's take a look at these trim levels and their optional additions so that you can order just the right 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV to meet your needs.
Compare the LT vs Premier. What is the difference?
When it comes to the small 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV line-up, you can only choose between the base LT trim or the top-of-the-line Premier trim level, which takes everything from the LT and builds well upon its immense foundations. The LT trim level starts you off with a set of 17-inch wheels that are manufactured from aluminum material and outfitted with some all-season tires. On the front fascia of this vehicle, you get standard LED headlights that help improve visibility in the darkness. Both exterior side mirrors have a heating function, which can help keep ice at bay during cooler months. Remote vehicle start and remote keyless entry both get included, making it easier and more efficient to get into the Bolt EUV and get the engine warmed up every day.
What will you find inside of the Bolt EUV LT trim level's cabin? You will see it lit up by relaxing ambient interior lighting. There is automatic climate control to keep the cabin set to a temperature that you desire. In the cockpit, you will be sitting behind a tilting and telescoping steering wheel. The seats are all upholstered in a standard cloth material, and the rear seatback has a 60/40-split fold to let bulky cargo items easily pass through.
As far as technology goes, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV's LT trim level is relatively well equipped. There is a standard 8-inch digital instrumentation pal. There is also a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system up front for you to enjoy, and the system is considerably easy to use. You can also use Bluetooth pairing for up to two of your electronic devices at the same time. Of course, smartphone app integration via Apple CarPlay is also included, and it is wireless so that you can avoid all the cord clutter up front. SiriusXM Satellite Radio is included in the mix as well, and it comes with a free trial period. A six speaker sound system and a wireless smartphone charging pad are also on the list of standard tech features.
There are quite a few safety and advanced driver aids included on the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV. This vehicle gives you a rear seat reminder, which reminds you to check the back seat for occupants before you exit the vehicle. Also, there is a safe teen driver system that lets you program specific driving limitations into the vehicle and get a report card whenever your teenager gets behind the wheel.
A slew of driver aids get bundled into a neatly packaged suite called Chevy Safety Assist. This equips the Bolt EUV LT with automatic high beam headlights, forward collision mitigation (which can detect potential frontal crashes and applies the brakes in an effort to avoid your vehicle getting hit), and lane departure mitigation (which will gently steer the Bolt EUV back into its driving lane when you stray over the line without using a turn signal).
The LT gives you several optional packages to choose from as well. First of all, there is the Driver Confidence package, which gives you parking sensors (which will warn you about any objects sitting below the bumpers that you cannot see with your own two eyes) and a blind-spot monitoring system with a rear cross-traffic alert (which alerts you when a vehicle is driving in your blind spot if you try to go into reverse or change lanes).
Another optional package for the LT trim level is the Comfort package. If you decide to equip it, you will gain a steering wheel that is both wrapped in leather and heated. You also get a driver's seat with power adjustability and heating for the front and rear outboard seats.
Finally, you can choose to equip the Convenience package on the LT trim level if you want a few more creature comforts. The 17-inch wheels are done in machined-finish aluminum, and there is an automatically dimming rearview mirror inside of the cabin. The seats are upholstered in leather material, plus the front seats gain a ventilation function. Rear seat occupants get treated to an armrest with built-in cupholders.
Now, if you decide to upgrade to the Premier trim level, don't worry - you get a lot of features added on for the price. You get the 17-inch wheels that come in the LT's Convenience package, as well as additional gloss black and chrome trim along the body of the Premier. What's more, the windshield wipers are capable of sensing rain and adjusting speed automatically. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather as well as heated, plus both front seats are able to be power adjusted. The seats are upholstered in leather. The front seats are both heated and ventilated; the rear outboard seats also have the heating function.
More tech features come equipped on the Bolt EUV Premier trim level. This list of tech gadgetry includes parking sensors that can pick up on objects low to the ground, a digital rearview mirror (which makes it so that you can see out the back of the vehicle even when it is fully loaded with cargo), and a surround-view camera that gives you a top-down view around the Bolt EUV. Adaptive cruise control lets you set a safe following distance between the Bolt and the vehicle driving in front of you and will adjust as needed. If a vehicle is driving in your blind spot when you go to reverse it or change lanes, the blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert will sound.
There are some optional packages and standalones for the Bolt EUV's Premier trim level. You can choose the Super Cruise package if you want its enhanced automatic emergency braking that can work at higher rates of speed and as well as a hands-free adaptive cruise control system.
There is also a Sun and Sound package that gives you a few more niceties. A panoramic sunroof comes with it, as does built-in navigation and a premium Bose audio system.
Both Bolt EUV trim levels are able to be equipped with the all-new Redline Edition package. This upgrades the Bolt EUV with sleek red and black exterior trim, gloss black wheels sized at 17 inches, and wheels and side mirror caps that have unique red accents adorning them.
Final Thoughts
The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is a bold-faced member of the all-electric vehicle segment, offering a good amount of leg room for the segment and a ton of available tech. But which trim level offers the most value?
We have to hand it to the base LT trim level. It is quite affordable and gives you quite a few package options to choose from. We would recommend equipping the LT trim with the Driver Confidence package since it has blind-spot warning. We would also think about equipping it with the Comfort package since it has the heated steering wheel and front seats, which can feel great on a cold winter's morn. The Redline Edition package isn't exactly a necessity, but it looks really chic and is worth adding if you can spare a few hundred bucks.
