Many consumers are looking for a vehicle that combines function with luxury. A crossover SUV provides the space, performance, and convenience features many people are seeking. Buying one from a manufacturer that is associated with high-quality, top-of-the-line vehicles can add those opulent touches, providing it is well-done.
This is a big year for Lincoln, who has renamed their midsize crossover from the MKX to the Nautilus. For many drivers, this will be a very welcome change because it is catchier and easier to remember. The changes to this vehicle go far beyond a new name as well. In 2019, this crossover enjoys a new look, new safety, new technology, and even a new engine under the hood.
Those considering this vehicle will have four trim levels to choose from. Being a Lincoln, even the base level of the Nautilus comes fully loaded. The middle two trim levels each add even more features. Those seeking the ultimate Nautilus will undoubtedly be drawn to the Black Label trim, which features exclusive design features as well as concierge services.
This guide will cover the differences between each of the trim level in order to help buyers determine which one is a good fit for them.
Compare the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus Standard vs Select Trims. What is the difference?
Like all of the vehicles in the Nautilus line, the Standard is available in all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive. This vehicle is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine that is paired well with the 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle activation. This engine provides drivers with 250-horsepower. The Standard trim sits on 18" warm alloy painted aluminum wheels.
When it comes to space, all of the trim levels have the same amount to offer. Each of these vehicles can comfortably seat five people. Unlike some vehicles that claim to seat five, the Nautilus has room for five adults. When the rear seats are up in these vehicles, they offer drivers 37 cubic feet of space. Drivers can fold those seats down and get up to 69 cubic feet.
Inside the Standard trim, consumers will find many convenient features. This trim comes with dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, and instrument cluster display featuring a 12.3" screen, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel complete with cruise control and audio controls. Drivers of this trim will also be able to take advantage of the standard remote-start system as well as the push-button start.
This base level trim also has many high-tech features for drivers to take advantage of. Like all trims, the Standard is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also features the Sync 3 infotainment system. This system includes an 8-inch touchscreen as well as 10 speakers. Rounding out these features are Bluetooth capability, Wi-Fi, two USB ports, and satellite radio.
Many of the driver assistance features that are becoming so popular are standard on all levels of the Lincoln Nautilus. This list includes Forward Collision Warning with Dynamic Brake Support, Pedestrian Detection, and a Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert. The last two features are part of the Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 suite of standard features. Other things included in it are Automatic High Beams, a Rearview Camera, and a Lane-Keeping System.
The outside of the Lincoln Nautilus Standard is quite stylish. It features LED headlamps, taillamps, and reverse lamps. The side mirrors are heated, power-folding, and have LED turn signal indicators on them. Dual chrome exhaust tips and door handle inserts also contribute to the look of this vehicle. For convenience, Lincoln has included a hands-free power liftgate as well as an Easy Fuel capless fuel filler.
Drivers moving up to the Select trim will get even more interior and exterior features. Features that come standard in the interior of this car include a wireless charging pad, universal garage door opener, and ambient lighting. This version adds leather-trimmed seats as well as a navigation system. Many features that will be standard on the next trim up are optional on the Select trim.
On the exterior of the Select trim, drivers will find LED fog lights. It rides on 18" premium painted bright machined aluminum wheels. Drivers have the option of upgrading to 20" premium painted ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels. This is also the first trim level to have the option of the Twin-Turbocharged 2.7L V6 engine that gives drivers an impressive 335-horsepower.
There are some optional packages available for the Select that are not available for the Standard. Drivers can add both a sunroof and a rear-seat entertainment system. They also have the option of adding the Climate package, which includes rain-sensing wipers and heated second-row seats.
Compare the 2019 Nautilus Select vs Reserve Trims. What is the difference?
The Reserve trim builds off of the features offered on the Select to add even more convenience and luxury. Adaptive suspension, which is an optional feature on the Select, becomes standard on the Reserve. This is also the first trim to have the option of adaptive steering and Evasive Steering Assist.
Inside these vehicles, consumers will find a Revel® Audio system with 13-speakers and HD Radio™ Technology standard. This setup was optional on the Select. Everyone in the vehicle can enjoy some warmth thanks to the heated front seats and standard heated second-row outboard seats.
There are not many differences when it comes to the exterior appearance of these trim levels. The Reserve trim does come with the 20" premium painted ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels and a panoramic sunroof as standard features. It can also be upgraded to include full LED multi-projector headlights with dynamic bending. There are no differences between these two trim levels when it comes to standard safety and security features.
That being said, there are two packages that buyers can add to a Reserve that they cannot add to a Select that are aimed at safety. The first is the Technology package, which gives drivers front parking sensors, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and a 360-degree camera. The second is the Driver Assistance package. With this, consumers will gain Evasive Steering Assist as well as Adaptive Cruise Control, which is quickly becoming a much sought-after feature.
Compare the Nautilus Reserve vs Black Label Trims. What is the difference?
There is a hefty price jump when buyers go from the Reserve to the Black Label. Since these vehicles are the same under the hood and both have front-wheel and all-wheel-drive options, the Black Label supposedly earns the extra money when it comes to styling.
The Black Label trim of the Nautilus rides on 21" painted ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels. These beauties are available on the Reserve but come standard on the Black Label vehicles. The full LED multi-projector headlights with dynamic bending become standard on this top-of-the-line trim as well. Everyone will be sure to recognize this vehicle due to the specialized and unique Black Label Badging.
Inside this trim consumers will get Venetian leather seats as well as Alcantara headliners and unique front and back floor mats that feature Alcantara binding. This suede-like material is made in Milan, Italy and used in many luxury yachts and aircraft.
There are three optional "themes" that consumers can add to the inside of the Black Label as well. They are Gala, Chalet, and Thoroughbred. Each theme consists of exclusive materials and colors of leather, allowing consumers to find the version that best suits their tastes.
Gala is all about drama and romance. It is intended to make consumers feel like they are on the red carpet. The Chalet theme is white and meant to remind buyers of Alpine slopes. It features things such as Cashmere Venetian leather. Finally, the Thoroughbred theme is meant to reflect American history. This rich theme includes luxurious touches such as Chestnut leather.
When it comes to music, drivers can enjoy the standard Revel® Ultima Audio with 19-speakers and HD Radio™ Technology. Again, this is only an optional feature on the Reserve. There are no differences when it comes to either safety or security features.
One of the most interesting things about the Black Label trim of the Nautilus is the fact that it comes with concierge services. Drivers get complimentary car washes whenever they want, as well as a full detailing once per year. New members to the Lincoln Black Label family even get a complimentary dinner for two at a top-rated restaurant.
Final Thoughts
Each trim level of the 2019 Nautilus has a lot to love about it. Unless a consumer has money to burn, however, they will likely want to avoid the Black Label. All of the upgrades this trim offers have to do with style and not function or safety. While the base-level Standard is an impressive vehicle, it is the only one not available with the better V6 engine.
For many consumers, the Nautilus Reserve is the way to go. Even if the consumer chooses to upgrade to the larger engine, all-wheel-drive, and add the Technology and Driver Assistance package, they are not paying quite as much as they would for a Black Label version with no upgrades. A fully-loaded Reserve is going to be a much better vehicle when it comes to safety and convenience features.
No matter which upgrades a buyer chooses to add, the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus Reserve is an excellent choice of vehicle.
