What 2019 Nissan Versa Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

The 2019 Nissan Versa comes in two different styles. You can get a Versa as a four-door sedan or as a four-door hatchback. The sedan comes in three different trim levels with a fourth, special-edition model. The hatchback offers three trim levels of its own. Both configurations provide great value with a number of impressive features.

All of the trim levels for the sedan come equipped with a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine. This engine features DOHC and sixteen valves. It can crank out around 109 horsepower with 107 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. This will be paired with a five-speed, manual transmission system or a two-speed, continuously-variable transmission, depending on the trim you choose. Every trim level of the Nissan Versa has front-wheel drive. This is the case for both the sedan and the hatchback.

The Versa sedan is a luxurious yet practical vehicle to own. It offers great fuel economy that will save you money at the pump. The base trim has a combined fuel-economy rating of 30 miles-per-gallon. The next three levels up will get you around 34 miles-per-gallon. Every version of the Versa also provides a quiet and comfortable ride quality. Steering and handling are tight and responsive.

With so many options available, it may be difficult to decide which Nissan Versa is right for you. We will take a close look at every configuration and trim level. We'll see what each has to offer and how they stack up against each other. With this information, your decision should be somewhat easier.

Compare the 2019 Nissan Versa Sedan S vs S Plus Trims. What is the difference?

On the outside of the Nissan Versa S, you get 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. These come equipped with all-season tires with low-rolling resistance. The exterior mirrors are colored to match the body paint. They also can be controlled remotely for your convenience. You get halogen headlamps with chrome accents. Chrome accents can also be found on the front grille.

The S Plus model gives you the same wheels and tires as the base model. The exterior features from the base model are present here too. The S plus tacks on air deflectors for your rear tires. You also get a rear spoiler when you move up to this trim level. The spoiler features integrated LED taillights.

On the mechanical side of things, both trims offer the same engine and transmission systems. You get the same suspension and steering features as well. The front suspension offers an independent strut with a stabilizer bar. You also get a torsion-beam rear axle with a stabilizer bar. Both trims give you electric-powered steering that is sensitive to your vehicle's speed.

On the inside of the Versa, both trims give you cloth upholstery. The driver's seat is manually adjustable. Cruise control and air conditioning is standard on both vehicles. You get a generous number of cup holders and small-item storage compartments. A 7-inch touchscreen comes with the infotainment system for both trims. USB ports allow you to connect and charge various devices.

Siri Eyes Free connectivity is available for both trims. You also get Hands-free Text Messaging Assistant for both. BlueTooth streaming is available for your music devices or for making hands-free phone calls as you drive. The sound system offers four speakers and an AM/FM radio. Illuminated audio controls are located right on the steering wheel. A rear-view camera helps you to see whatever is behind you. A tire-pressure monitor lets you know if your air pressure is at a safe level.

The safety features are largely the same for the S and S Plus models. A traction-control system keeps you from skidding on wet pavement or rough terrain. Front and rear crumple zones make the Versa safer in the event of an accident. Nissan also has added in hood-buckling creases and an energy-absorbing steering column. Steel support beams give the vehicle extra protection for side impacts. Front and side airbags are standard equipment for both trims.

Compare the 2019 Versa Sedan S Plus vs SV Trims. What is the difference?

Moving on to the SV trim package gets you the same engine and transmission system as before. Mechanically, there isn't a whole lot that's different here. The brakes, steering and suspension are all identical with the previous two trim levels. You still get the 15-inch wheels and all-season tires for the SV. There isn't much on the outside of the SV to differentiate it from the S or S Plus either.

The seats get a few upgrades on the inside of the Nissan Versa SV. The cloth upholstery is of a higher quality. Adjustments to the driver's seat are still set manually, but you now have six-way adjustments as opposed to the four-way adjustments for the previous trim. The driver's seat gets an armrest added on to make your long commutes more comfortable. The rear seats now offer a 60/40 split, fold-down feature to give you more cargo space when it's needed.

The SV comes with the same audio system, speakers and infotainment features. The 7-inch display screen makes a return for this trim package. All of the safety features and design elements are the same for the S Plus and SV models. Most of the differences between these trims comes from the interior extras and convenience features.

On the instrument cluster, you'll find better illumination for all of the gauges on the SV trim. A remote, keyless entry feature is added on. Power door locks with an auto-lock feature are now standard for the SV. The window controls are now powered and offer a one-touch, auto-down feature. Nissan also added a push-button ignition to this model.

Compare the Versa Sedan SV vs SV Special Edition Trims. What is the difference?

Nissan's SV Special Edition gives you all of the perks of the previous trim levels and then some. Once again, the mechanical aspects of the vehicle remain unchanged. The same basic safety features remain intact as well. The Special Edition adds on one security feature in the form of an immobilizer system. The engine will not run if someone tries to tamper with the vehicle to start it without the correct key fob present.

For the exterior, fog lamps now come as standard equipment. These can be tacked on to the previous trim as an option. The wheels are upgraded to six-spoke, aluminum-alloy models. The seats remain the same as before. The steering wheel now comes wrapped in fine leather. The radio and speaker system remain unchanged. Nissan's infotainment system for the Special Edition adds in connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Sirius XM Satellite Radio with a free trial is included when you select the SV Special Edition. You get some additional storage areas for this top-tier trim level too. Both models offer cup holders up front and for your rear passengers. The front-door pockets feature bottle holders. The visors get illuminated vanity mirrors for the Special Edition.

Compare the Versa Note S vs SV Trims. What is the difference?

The Versa Note S has the same wheels and tires are the S model of the sedan. On the outside, you get an active grille shutter for both the S and SV hatchbacks. The taillights are designed to be more aerodynamic. Halogen headlights and power outside mirrors round out some of the notable exterior features.

The S trim gives you four-way adjustable front seats. The SV model gets you six-way adjustable seats. Adjustments are made manually on both trims. Some common convenience features these trims share are rear-view monitors, rear-window defrosters and A/C. An AM/FM stereo with CD player is available on both trims. The SV model gets upgraded illumination for the gauges.

Some key differences include upgraded upholstery and remote, keyless entry for the SV. Perhaps the biggest addition to the SV is Nissan's Divide-N-Hide adjustable floor. This gives you more storage space that's outside the view of bystanders. The infotainment system comes with a 7-inch display screen for both models. The safety features are the same for both models and comparable to what you find on the sedan trims.

Compare the 2019 Versa Note SV vs SR Trims. What is the difference?

The Nissan Versa Note SR adds on fog lights and sport side sills. You get the Nissan Intelligent Key with Push-Button Ignition for this trim level. Fog lights and a rear spoiler are added on to the exterior. The wheels get upgraded to 16-inch aluminum alloys with five-split spokes.

The infotainment system gets upgraded a bit for the SR. It's the same system you find on the Special Edition sedan. The security system with immobilizer is added on to the SR trim, while it's absent from the SV model. The safety features all remain the same between these two hatchbacks. Power door locks and windows come standard for the SV and SR but are missing for the S trim.

Final Thoughts

The first decision you'll have to make is whether the sedan or hatchback is right for you. Both seat the same number of passengers. If you need more rear-seat space for average-sized or larger adults, then the sedan may be your best bet. If you're more likely to need extra cargo space for goods instead of people, then the hatchback is your best option here.

The trim levels for the sedan or hatchback mostly just add on convenience and comfort features. You won't miss any major performance or safety features by going with the low-cost base models. This makes them excellent value purchases. Fortunately, there isn't a high cost increase between the trim levels either. This is why it's easy to recommend going with the SV Special Edition sedan or the SR hatchback. The added perks are well worth the small additional cost.
