It also has exceptional standard equipment and offers luxury class upgrades. There are four trim levels available for the Avalon. Buyers can consider the base XLE, the sporty XSE or the upper level Touring and Limited trims.

There are a lot of features for each trim level as well as additional upgrades available. Buyers looking to get the most out of their Avalon experience should be aware of all the options and configurations available for the Avalon. This article breaks down all of the options for the Avalon so buyers get a clear picture of the functions of each trim level.

Compare the 2019 Toyota Avalon XLE vs XSE Trims. What is the difference?

All of the Avalon trims come with a V6 engine and front wheel drive capability. The V6 offers great power and efficiency despite the size of the Avalon. The V6 offers 301 horsepower and gets 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The XLE comes with an automatic eight speed transmission. The transmission for the XLE also features ShiftMatic shifting for more control while driving. The Avalon XLE also has three drive modes, Eco, Normal and Sport.

The exterior of the XLE comes with LED headlights, taillights and daytime running lights. The mirrors are power adjustable, heated and feature turn signal integration. It also comes with acoustic glass for the windshield and front windows. The XLE comes standard with 17 inch silver alloy wheels. It is available in five standard colors; Harbor Gray, Opulent Amber, Celestial Silver, Midnight Black and Brownstone. There are three additional colors available at an extra charge. The options are Wind Chill Pearl, Ruby Flare Pearl and Parisian Night Pearl. Buyers looking to get their XLE in Parisian Night Pearl will also have to upgrade to the sunroof package.

The interior features two front row seats that are heated and power adjustable. The interior color options include beige, graphite and black. The seats are upholstered with SofTex leatherette materials. The rear seat is a bench seat with 60/40 folding capabilities and a center armrest. The XLE also comes with dual zone climate control. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and features integrated controls for Bluetooth and audio. The instrument cluster of the XLE also features a multi information display for the driver.

The infotainment system for the XLE is a nine inch touch screen with backup camera, AM/FM/XM/HD radio, voice recognition and Scout GPS Link compatibility. The XLE also comes with Apple iPhone integration including Apple CarPlay and Siri Eyes Free. The Avalon does not currently support Android mobile devices. It is also equipped with an eight speaker audio system.

The XLE also includes exceptional standard features including keyless entry, push button start, auto dimming rear view mirror and an electronic parking brake.

The XLE offers buyers advanced driver assistance features as well. The XLE has blind spot warning, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control. It is also equipped with a collision warning system that features pedestrian detection and automatic braking.

Even with all of this standard equipment, buyers can load even more features onto the XLE with its additional packages.

The JBL Audio Upgrade package includes an advanced infotainment system with an App Suite to control functions of the iPhone. It also comes with a JBL premium audio system that has 14 speakers and surround sound technology.

The XLE can also be outfitted with Qi wireless charging and a power moonroof with the Moonroof package.

The XLE has great potential as a quality vehicle even as a base trim option. The XSE has a more sport minded theme and offers additional upgrades.

The exterior is equipped with smoked chrome bezels on the headlight lenses and 19" black painted alloy wheels. The grille and mirrors are black, and it features a black rear spoiler. The XSE also comes equipped with the features from the Moonroof package.

The XSE offers drivers a more thrilling driving experience with sport tuned suspension and an intake sound generator. The steering wheel is also wrapped in premium leather and includes paddle shifters for more driver control.

The interior is also appointed with aluminum trim accents and pedals. The seats are upgraded to combine the Softex leatherette and Ultrasuede in either black or graphite colors. The rear view mirror features a frameless design and Homelink universal home accessory controls.

The XSE has all of the standard features of the XLE and offers an upgraded JBL Audio package. The XSE JBL Audio package includes the upgraded audio system as well as engine sound enhancement, a sport tuned exhaust and active noise control. The added features add to the sport spirit of the XSE.

Compare the 2019 Avalon XSE vs Touring Trims. What is the difference?

The XSE adds driving excitement to the Avalon, and the Touring trim level continues in that direction with many of the same features of the XSE. While the engine remains the same, the Touring features Adaptive Variable Suspension for better handling as well as an additional drive mode for more aggressive performance.

The exterior of the Touring trim includes laser etched headlights and tailights as well as dynamic turn signals. It has similar exterior features compared to the XSE with black grille and mirrors. The mirrors of the Touring trim also include memory settings. The Touring also includes all of the features of the XSE JBL Audio package including engine sound enhancement.

On the interior, the Touring trim features seating trim options similar to the XSE. It also adds more power adjustment capabilities as well as ventilated front seats. The steering wheel is also trimmed in premium leather and is heated. The rear outboard seats are also heated.

The Avalon Touring edition also comes standard with a 10 inch head up display to keep the driver's focus on the road. The interior also comes with ambient lighting and still features the aluminum trim of the XSE.

The Touring edition also offers buyers the best available infotainment system with Dynamic navigation and WiFi capability.

Even with all of the mentioned additional standard features of the Touring trim, buyers can opt to add even more great technology with the Advanced Safety package. This package offers a Bird's Eye camera in place of the standard backup camera. It features an overhead view of the surroundings of the Avalon. The package also includes Intelligence Clearance Sonar with rear cross traffic braking. The sonar system monitors the surroundings of the Avalon and alerts the driver when there is insufficient clearance around the vehicle.

Compare the Avalon Touring vs Limited Trims. What is the difference?

While the Touring trim level offers premium features and standard sport styling, the Limited trim takes the Avalon in a more refined and luxurious direction. It offers all of the standard equipment available on the Touring with a few exceptions.

The Limited trim level of the Avalon does away with many of the sportier elements of the Touring trim. Gone are the sport tuned suspension, adaptive variable suspension, paddle shifters, sport tuned exhaust and engine noise enhancement. The Avalon Limited also does away with the additional drive mode offered with the Touring trim.

The exterior of the Limited trim has no spoiler and the black accents are gone. It also sports chrome 18" wheels. The mirrors get an upgrade with auto dimming capabilities in addition to defrost, memory and power adjust features. It also includes the Power Moonroof package.

The Limited also trades in the aluminum interior accents of the Touring trim for wood grain features. The seats are premium leather and are available in Cognac, Graphite or Beige. The seats are also heated and ventilated and feature a memory function. The rear seats are also heated.

The Limited has plenty of luxury built in, but buyers can also add the Advanced Safety package that includes the clearance sensors, bird's eye view camera and rear cross traffic braking.

Final Thoughts

The XLE trim of the Avalon has great potential for most buyers in the large car category. It has more than enough standard features to justify its above average base price. It also has the best available powertrain standard. The lack of Android Auto may be a sticking point for some customers but it is not available at the upper trim levels either.

The three other trim levels are more of a luxury vehicle option with lots of advanced technology and premium features. Many would argue that the Touring trim level is the top tier due to the fact that it costs a few hundred dollars more than the Limited, but the leather seating and classic design elements make the Limited the more traditional top trim option.

Buyers that are looking for extra driving excitement will most likely be drawn to either the XSE or the Touring trims. The sporty theme of these two trim levels actually make them a significantly different vehicle with major differences across all the different aspects of the Avalon.

Due to the differences between the sporty versions of the Avalon and the more traditional versions, some buyers will be faced only two options. The more traditional buyer will likely be drawn to the XLT and the Limited, and the sport enthusiast will be looking at the XSE and the Touring trims.
