Are You Considering a 2015 Ford Edge? Here Are Some Reasons For and Against

For over 100 years, the Ford Motor Company has been making some really great vehicles. Even though they have had a few models which just were complete lemons. However, as the years have passed and technology has advanced by leaps and bounds they have developed some amazing cars. Take for instance the Ford Edge. It is one of their newer smaller SUVx that has been out for a few years now. The 2015 model has some new features that make it worth buying. But, the car is not for everyone. Like all cars, there are some drawbacks to it.

10 Reasons Why You Should Buy a 2015 Ford Edge - The Pros

Reason to Buy 1: It is longer and taller than the 2014 model. It yields more leg room. Legroom for driver and front passenger increases by 2 inches and for rear passengers 1 inch. Headroom is at least 1 inch higher. Cargo space has grown to 39.4 cubic feet behind the second row of seats. If you fold down the second row, you will get a grand total of 73.2 cubic feet. That's a pretty good amount of extra cargo space.

Reason to Buy 2: If you decide to go with the Edge Sport model you will have the choice of a 2.7 liter V6 engine as opposed to the stand 4 cylinder engine in the other model. This means a tougher engine for hauling and lots more power.

Reason to Buy 3: The new 2015 Ford Edge now comes available in an optional Titanium package like many of the other cars that Ford offers such as the Fusion. The Titanium package features different premium paint color options, push-button and remote engine start.

Reason to Buy 4: A Safer Steering System. Most SUVs do not handle steering very well at high speeds. This makes them very susceptible to roll-over accidents. The improved steering system on the 2015 Edge give you more control at higher speeds to prevent roll overs and tipping.

Reason to Buy 5: Every new model will feature a rear-view camera. This is a great feature for when you are backing up to make sure you don't accidentally bump into anything such as another vehicle or a pole.

Reason to Buy 6: A hands-free lift gate that is activated by you moving your foot in front of an electronic sensor that is located under the back bumper. This is very practical when you have your hands full of bags of groceries or other items.

Reason to Buy 7: A 180-degree front parking camera. I particularly like this feature because I can never tell if I have pulled up far enough into a parking space if there isn't a parking block present.

Reason to Buy 8: A Parallel Parking Assistant System. This is also very good because it is often difficult to be able to judge if there is a parking spot on the street that you can fit your car into properly. The parallel parking assist searches for an appropriate spot for you and basically parks the car for you that way you have plenty of room both in front of you and behind you so that when you go to pull back out the space you are not at risk for hitting another car. Also, this allows ample room for other cars to be able to pull out of their parking spaces hopefully without hitting your vehicle.

Reason to Buy 9: There is an optional system that you can choose which will help you to manage your blind spots. I think that this is crucial for making lane changes, Even though it is best to always look over your shoulder and use your rear and side view mirrors before you make a lane change, you just never can always see cars well enough that are within range of your blind spot. Another good reason to add this option is because you never know when someone is going to make an abrupt lane change behind you at the same time you are attempting to change lanes. You could end up colliding with the other vehicle while both of you are attempting to make a lane change.

Reason to Buy 10: Another good optional feature is the rear cross-traffic alert. This is especially good when you are driving through an intersection and someone runs a red light from either side of you. The same thing for when you are at a stop sign. It's good when you are going through a four-way stop sign because someone could decide to run one of the other cross-traffic stop signs at the same time you are passing through the intersection. If it is only a two-way stop sign, then you definitely will be able to use it to make sure that another vehicle is not trying to cross the intersection at the same time you, especially if they don't see you or are speeding.

Reasons You May Not Like the 2015 Ford Edge - The Cons

There are a few reasons why you might not want to buy the new 2015 Ford Edge. To be honest, it is not the nicest looking SUV on the market. It is very boxy and bulky even for it being a small SUV. It has some features that are a complete waste of money unless you absolutely have to have these items just because you want them or have the extra money to spend on them.

One of them is a heated steering wheel. While this is a nice feature, it really is an unnecessary one. You can turn the heating system on and have the vent blowing towards you or wear a pair of gloves. For many years, people have been driving cars that did not have heated steering wheels and they have managed just fine without them.

Another frivolous option is heated and vented seats. Unless you live in an area where it is severely cold and snow during the winter, a heated seat will not be much use for you. Again, you can turn on the heater and be just as warm without the feature of a heated seat.

The option for the vented seats is supposed to keep you cooler and allow air to circulate better so you will feel more comfortable driving during warmer weather. This feature seems a bit useless because you can simply turn on the air conditioning to stay cool in warm temperatures.

So, there are both good and not so good reasons to purchase the 2015 Ford Edge. Check it out as well as other SUVs within the same price range to see if it is the right vehicle for you.
