When it was first introduced as part of the 2017 model year, the Jaguar F-Pace almost immediately proved itself to be a popular choice among the midsize luxury SUV segment. The supercharged V6 engine is, in particular, a buyer's delight, but customers are also enjoying its spacious cabin, plentiful cargo area, and sporty handling dynamics. There are, of course, some downsides to the F-PACE, such as a few questionable interior material qualities and the super-aggravating, always-crashing infotainment system - which was truly the bane of any F-PACE owner's existence.
This year, Jaguar is doing a few things to rectify those issues and minimize consumer complaints. This year marks a mild facelift for the interior and exterior of the F-PACE. The exterior sees some subtle re-sculpting to the front fascia, in particular with the shaping of the grille and headlights. Inside, Jaguar ups the ante with improved quality materials, letting you know you really are riding inside of a luxury brand vehicle.
Oh, and that ridiculous old contraption of an infotainment system? It is gone. In its place is the Pivi Pro infotainment system. This set-up comes with a chic, 11.4-inch curved touchscreen display that has clearer graphics and quicker response times to user inputs. It is even allows users to do over-the-air software updates and can let the driver and front seat passenger share wireless connections without having to swap in and out. It is a huge improvement over the outgoing system and truly speaks to Jaguar's emphasis on customer satisfaction.
We should also mention that the F-PACE's cabin is now a lot quieter too. This is due to the inclusion of a mild-hybrid 48-volt powertrain system getting added to the mix. It also happens to make things a bit more fuel-efficient.
So, which of the 2021 Jaguar F-PACE's four trim levels is going to suit your needs the best? Will it be the base F-PACE, the S, the sportier R-Dynamic S, or the line-topping, ultra-luxurious SVR trim level? Let's go through them and compare what each has to offer. Be sure to hang on 'til the end since that is where we will let you know our pick for the best overall deal of a trim level this model year.
Compare the 2021 Jaguar F-PACE vs F-PACE S Trims. What is the difference?
First things first. The 2021 Jaguar F-PACE's base trim is just called the F-PACE base trim. It is powered by a standard 2.0-L P250 inline-4 cylinder engine that generates a power output of 246 hp. Its top speed is 135 mph, and it can get from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.9 seconds. If you opt up for the S trim level, you can choose between that engine or the 3.0-L P340 inline-6 cylinder MHEV (which means that it has the mild hybrid powertrain system equipped). That engine gets a power output of 335 hp, has a top speed of 149 mph, and gets from 0 to 60 mph in a swift 5.8 seconds, slicing over an entire second off of the P250's time.
The base trim rides atop standard 19-inch Style 5038, 5 split-spoke wheels done in a chic Gloss Grey tone with a contrast done in Diamond Turned finish. Meanwhile, the S trim level gets switched up to wheels that are ever-so-slightly different: 19-inch Style 5103, 5 spoke, Gloss Black in color with a contrast Diamond Turned finish to them.
So, what do these two trim levels have on the inside? For starters, the base F-PACE comes with a rear-view mirror that is auto dimming, engineered wood veneer, and ambient lighting that has 10 color options and is able to be configured to your liking. The front seats are 12-way power-adjustable with heating and two-way adjustable head rests, and the upholstery is done in some seriously upscale Luxtec. Upgrading to the S trim level swaps in even more refined grained leather seats with a diamond perforation to them and with the signature embossed Jaguar Leaper.
As far as infotainment goes, the base trim keeps you with the standard Pivi system with the 11.4-inch infotainment touchscreen display. A Meridian sound system comes equipped, and you also get smartphone app integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Jaguar Remote App comes included as well. However, switching it up to the S trim level gets you the new Pivi Pro Connected system, including an online pack with a data plan.
The base trim gives you a number of convenience features to start with, such as keyless entry, a phone signal booster with the wireless charging pad, and the HomeLink garage door opener. That is already pretty bountiful, and the S does not add much to it.
The abundance of advanced driver aids on the base trim is also pretty impressive. This trim level gets treated to parking aids for the front and rear of the vehicle, a 3D surround-view camera system, lane keep assist, and blind spot assist. The S trim level just adds an adaptive speed limited with the traffic sign recognition feature and - exclusively for the P340 version - adaptive and configurable dynamics.
Compare the 2021 Jaguar F-PACE S vs R-Dynamic S Trim. What is the difference?
The R-Dynamic S is a sportier version of the s trim level that utilizes a 3.0-L P400 inline-6 cylinder MHEV engine. This engine amps things up with its power output of 395 hp, top speed of 155 mph, and 0 to 60 mph time of a mere 5.1 seconds.
Even its body kit suggests its more athletic, aggressive nature. The R-Dynamic S is equipped with more aerodynamic features and sportier aesthetics, including a revised grille, door cladding, bumper inserts, and bumper finishers. It gets to ride on 19-inch Style 5037, 5-spoke, Gloss Black wheels.
Inside, you will find some sportier upgrades too, starting with the trim finisher, which is done in engine spun aluminum. You will also see a leather-clad steering wheel branded with the R-Dynamic logo and metal treadplates with the same branding emblazoned on them. The standard headlining gets swapped out in favor of some stunning Ebony Morzine headlining. Also, this trim level has sport seats done in grained leather with grid perforation and - of course - the embossed Jaguar Leaper on them.
The only difference when it comes to the standard driver aids is that the Adaptive and Configurable Dynamics come equipped with the R-Dynamic S. Otherwise, it adds nothing else. And it does not add anything in terms of infotainment features.
Compare the 2021 Jaguar F-PACE S vs SVR Trims. What is the difference?
The F-PACE's line-topping SVR trim level reaches the height of luxury for this segment. The only engine that you can get on this trim level is the amazingly high-powered 5.0-L P550 supercharged V8, which puts forth 550 hp. Yes, 550 hp on a midsize luxury SUV. That helps it reach a top speed of 178 mph and get from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, which blows away much of the competition.
The SVR truly is all about style even though it puts in one amazing performance. Outside, you will notice a unique body kit, as the SVR has its own unique SVR front bumper, special body-colored door claddings done up with chic Satin Grey finishers, and a unique SVR rear bumper design with a sleek Satin Grey finish to it. You will also notice that there are 95 mm finishers on the quad tailpipes, which you will not find on any of the lower trim levels.
Of course, you are also going to get some upgrades to the wheels as well. Aside from the sporty red calipers, you also get equipped with 21-inch Style 5080, 5 split-spoke, Satin Technical Grey wheels with a contrast done in a Diamond Turned finish.
The inside, quite naturally, is just as unique as the outside. The SVR's interior comes with a special SVR steering wheel with special stitching on the inside rim, done in a mix of Light Lunar and Red Flame tones. It looks just as cool as it sounds. Additionally, the front seats get upgraded to being performance 14-way power-adjustable with heating and cooling, and memory is added to the passenger seat. These performance seats get the SVR logo embossed on their head rests and are done in a superb Suedecloth and Windsor leather mix.
As far as infotainment features go, the one thing that gets added is the interactive driver display. The Driver Assistance Pack gets added to the list of driver aids, giving you features like a rear collision monitor and adaptive cruise control. Other than that, everything that comes on the lower trim levels gets included on the line-topping SVR trim level.
Which Trim to Choose?
The 2021 Jaguar F-PACE is on track to be a serious competitor in its segment this model year following the few changes that Jaguar needed to make. The Pivi Pro infotainment system is a massive upgrade in terms of user-friendliness, but it also comes off as being very much current-gen. Jaguar is not settling for less or taking the cheap route here. They are listening to our complaints, and we appreciate that.
That being said, we do have a preferred trim level this year, even though we like all of them for different reasons. The S trim level gives you all the necessary upgrades (notably, the Pivi Pro) while keeping you within a reasonable price range. The 3.0-L engine is a solid choice for that trim level since it gives you the MHEV, which will help a little bit with boosting your fuel economy. It still offers a lot of luxury features and a beautiful, spacious cabin that has been redesigned for the 2021 model year.
Of course, if money is no issue, then spring for the line-topping SVR trim level. It is genuinely a marvel of modern automotive technology and is downright fun to drive. It blends the luxury you get from the S trim level and the sporty nature of the R-Dynamic, melding them into one high-octane mid-size luxury SUV. If you really want to go top-of-the-line this year, then the F-PACE SVR is absolutely the way to go.
We truly cannot recommend the mildly refreshed 2021 Jaguar F-PACE enough. This year's changes just go to show how a little bit goes a long way, and that listening to your customers is essential for continued growth and success within the industry. The S trim level is a smart choice for newcomers to the luxury world, and the SVR is a great way to make your friends jealous if you have been around the block a few times and have money to spare. Regardless, you really cannot go wrong when you buy a new 2021 Jaguar F-PACE.
