The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover is a large luxury SUV with exceptional off-road capabilities. Land Rover has done a fantastic job of balancing the utility and functionality of this vehicle with its posh interior and high-end features. The Range Rover is a four-door vehicle that can accommodate up to five people. It also offers a large, versatile cargo area. Don't let the modern amenities and the hefty price tag fool you. Under the luxurious surface is a rugged vehicle that can go anywhere.

What's New for 2021?

In 2021, Land Rover will be selling three special-edition models of the Range Rover. The Fifty Edition will commemorate the 50th anniversary of this legendary SUV. It will be limited to a run of only 1970 vehicles. 1970 happens to be the first year that the Range Rover was produced. The Westminster Edition features unique exterior-design features. The Dynamic Black Edition comes in a blacked-out motif.

Ten Reasons You May Like the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover – The Pros

1. Powertrain Options and Performance Stats

Land Rover gives buyers the choice of four different engines for the 2021 Range Rover. The base engine is a turbocharged inline six-cylinder. This engine almost qualifies as a hybrid, as it comes paired with a small electric motor. This setup produces 355 horsepower. If you want to go green, the Range Rover is also available as a full plug-in hybrid.

Land Rover also offers a V6 Diesel model for superior low-end torque. This greatly helps out with the Range Rover's off-road and towing capabilities. For a real powerhouse, there's a big 5.0-liter V8 engine that cranks out 518 horsepower. Several of the special editions come with a tuned-up version of the V8 that can produce 557 horsepower. Acceleration is surprisingly brisk with the V8 engine.

2. Impressive Off-Road and Wading Capabilities

The Range Rover offers superior off-road performance thanks to its all-wheel drive, high ground clearance and an excellent suspension system. This is further enhanced by Adaptive Dynamics, a dual-speed transfer box and an electronically-controlled center differential. Land Rover's Terrain Response System makes navigating tough terrain a lot easier. The Range Rover also leads its class with the ability to wade through waters up to 35.4-inches deep.

3. Versatile Cargo Space

The Range Rover offers a lot of room in back to carry groceries or whatever your adventure requires. Buyers can choose single seats or rear, folding bench seats for the second row. There's even the option for power-operated, folding rear seats. The seats can be configured in a number of ways to accommodate more cargo or more passengers. The Range Rover offers a cargo capacity of up to 68.8 cubic feet.

4. Lots of Room for Passengers

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover has plenty of room for up to five people, including the driver. This is contingent on certain options, however. Remember, you can purchase a Range Rover with single seats in the second row instead of the standard bench seat with room for three passengers. Still, no matter how the seats are setup, there is a ton of room to spread out and get comfortable in. The Range Rover interior is a nice place to be on long road trips.

5. An Attractive Exterior

The exterior design of the Range Rover is both attractive and rugged. It has a throwback, boxy style that is reminiscent of military vehicles. It's a tough appearance that suits this tough, off-road-ready vehicle. It also balances surprisingly well with the posh, luxurious interior. The Range Rover is all about balance, offering both high-end comfort and impressive capabilities. This is an SUV that looks good and right at home no matter where you take it.

6. A Luxurious Interior

The interior of the Land Rover Range Rover is filled with high-quality materials. There is real-wood trim, Diamond Quilted leathers and soft carpeting. There's a modern, elegant design here that is simply beautiful. The craftsmanship, fit and finish are all excellent inside of this luxury SUV. The seats are soft, supple and supportive. Even the gauge cluster and infotainment system are designed and laid out with appearance in mind.

7. The Refined Ride Quality

It's quiet on the inside of the Range Rover. You won't be pestered with engine, wind or road noise at all. Land Rover engineers have done a fine job of sound proofing this vehicle. This makes for a nice relaxing ride. The same excellent suspension system that can tackle tough, off-road terrain, gives you a smooth ride over paved roads. You can always look forward to a smooth, bump-free experience with Land Rover's Range Rover.

8. The Ability To Tow

With a large luxury SUV that is built for comfort, it's almost inevitable that you will take it on a long road trip at some point. This means you may wish to take a trailer along for the ride. Or perhaps you'll want to go wandering off the beaten path. After all, the Range Rover was also built with off-road performance in mind. You may wish to bring a boat along for your adventure. Thankfully, the Land Rover has you covered with a peak towing capacity of up to 7,716 pounds.

9. Safety Features and Driver-Assist Tech

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover comes packed with a lot of driver assists. You get Roll Stability Control to lower the possibility of a rollover. Emergency Brake Assist and ABS brakes make stopping in time a whole lot easier. Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control allow for better performance on a variety of surfaces and terrain types.

Pretensioners are installed on all seat belts. These automatically tighten for optimal protection during a crash. There are a number of airbags to protect the driver and all occupants of the vehicle. These are positioned strategically for protection against front, rear and side collisions. The Range Rover also has anti-whiplash head restraints and a security-alarm system.

10. It's Packed With Modern Technology

Land Rover's Range Rover comes packed with a wealth of modern technology. We previously covered the high-tech driver assists and safety features. A lot of modern technology went into the traction and suspension systems too. There is also an infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, Voice-Recognition Technology and a GPS navigation system. The system also features duel 10-inch, HD touchscreen displays. It's even compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Reasons You May Not Like the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover – The Cons

1. A High Starting Price

One of the biggest drawbacks to purchasing a Range Rover is the high starting price. It's one of the most expensive vehicles in its class. Keep in mind, however, that this is a true luxury vehicle in every sense of the word. It also happens to offer some of the best capabilities and off-road performance available. This balance makes it well-worth the cost for fans of the Range Rover.

2. Limited Cubby Storage

This may seem like a minor gripe, but there is a serious lack of small-item storage space up front. This seems like an odd omission for an otherwise fantastic interior. Land Rover put a lot of thought into the interior design, but this one small feature seems to have been overlooked.

3. The Steering and Handling Could Be Better

This may be the biggest downside to owning a Land Rover Range Rover. It's a large vehicle that steers and handles like a boat. The same could be said about most large SUVs, but there are competing vehicles in this class that do a better job than the Range Rover. This is one area that could use some improvement for future models.

How It Stacks Up to the Competition:

2021 Land Rover Range Rover vs 2021 Lincoln Navigator

The Lincoln Navigator, like the Range Rover, is a large luxury SUV. It offers decent off-road performance, but it's nowhere near as capable as the Range Rover in this category. The Navigator has a powerful, turbocharged V6 engine that produces 450 horsepower. This is more than the Range Rover's base engine which produces 355 horses. It's much less than the the Range Rover's V8 engine that can crank out 518 to 557 horsepower.

Both SUVs offer comfortable interiors and a nice ride quality. The Range Rover's interior has a better fit and finish with more upscale materials. The Navigator gives you the option of a third-row seat for more passenger room. It also offers more cargo space in back. The Range Rover is still more capable in most ways with more power, better towing and better off-road performance.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class

The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class offers room for up to seven people. It comes equipped with a turbocharged V6 that produces 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. This is a bit higher than the Range Rover I6, but less than what its V8 can do. The GLS-Class has a lower starting price and a bit more cargo room. The GLS-Class is a true luxury vehicle with a posh interior and a ton of convenience features. Nothing really eclipses what the Range Rover offers, though.

The Range Rover once again cannot be beat when it comes to versatility and off-road performance. It wins hands-down in these categories. The Range Rover may be more expensive, but it makes up for it with more standard features and equipment. You get Dual-Zone Climate Control on every trim level. The Range Rover also has more standard driver-assists such as Lane-Keep Assist and a Lane-Departure Warning.

Conclusion

If you're looking for a luxury vehicle that can also rock crawl and ford a stream, it doesn't get much better than the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover. This is one of the most versatile vehicles on the market today. It offers an overwhelming amount of convenience features and luxury appointments. There's a ton of room for passengers and cargo. The Range Rover also looks equally fantastic parked outside of the office or on an outdoor adventure.
